Skyrim is an awful game. I have no idea how it got so popular with its weak gameplay, weak writing, weak characters, repetitive dungeons and boring overworld. I don’t get it.

it just works, I think I agree with you in every single area but the gameplay loop is just so f***ing rock solid

Probably said this before, but FromSoftware's writing and way of telling their story is absolute garbage.

Like i'll admit the lore is interesting, but ONLY when you're watching a VaatiVidya or Rannie The Witch type video where someone already compile everything.

You can't enjoy the story when you're actually playing the game

    im exploring a ruined world

Elden ring had the most accessible story without having to watch someone like Vaati. But yeah trying to understand anything deeper than surface level lore in DS is nearly impossible without watching a video.

Rainbow Six Siege being such a big success is one of the worst things that ever happened to the franchise. Completely killed any interest Ubisoft had in making another single player RS game ever again.

I don't like the representation of the characters or the islanders. It is what it is. I'm sorry I insulted your childhood or whatever

Been years since I played Far Cry 3 but what was wrong with the representation? Don't remember getting a white savior vibe from the game. Every Far Cry I've played (2,3,4,5) puts you in a chaotic occupied zone open world and you're tasked with liberating it from the main villain. It's a theme of the series, like how GTA games end with the protagonist getting revenge on someone who betrayed them

I'm African but I felt more insulted by Far Cry 5. The NPCs and dialogue just felt like how a bunch of French dudes view Americans Everyone was a trigger happy, cheeseburger eating redneck. Got old so fast

Like you said, the gameplay in FC3 is really great. One of those games where you can tune the plot out completely and just enjoy the gameplay. Like HZD

You really just had to be there in 2011. Game had 14 year old me HOOKED, would sit like 10 hours straight playing it. Would only hop off when it froze on a loading screen

If you use 25 hours of cutscene to make an interactive movie youve failed at the medium of gaming

Would rather play a jrpg with 2 milion times the same random encounter instead

Basically my whole thing from what I played is that the whole island lacked a sense of place and felt like just a generic Western reimagining of whatever they thought would fit with the black allies. It genuinely felt all over the place for me, and a STARK departure from Far Cry 2.

In the previous entry, the specificity was there, which I greatly appreciated. You could tell that they went with a Southern African inspiration and those characters are pretty much consistent across the board. People can say what they want about the malaria mechanic and the guns jamming and all that, but they got the characters right. I cannot say the same for Far Cry 3 outside of Vaas. It's prolly a minor thing, but it bothered me enough to stop playing for a bit. The gameplay is really fun though, I will say. Easily the highlight. Might probably roam the open world, shoot pirates, unlock towers and call it a day.

You niggas need to get the f*** on with this "movie game" criticism Games have BEEN using cutscenes, how else do you get the player to pay attention to information that the developer wants to communicate to the player. Even OG Pokémon games have cutscenes - a trainer seeing you and walking over before saying a line of dialogue is a cutscene. Even FromSoft games with all their item descriptions, NPC dialogue, environmental hints etc still need to make use of occasional cutscenes

I feel like yall only hate it now because they got more realistic and actually feel like movies with detailed face animations and movie level music scores. If there's solid gameplay surrounding the cutscenes like TLOU and GoW, I don't see the problem

always seemed like a weird criticism to me, whats the difference from this or being pissed off a game is a battle royale, its just the kind of game it is, go play something that has less cutscenes if you dont want that? not like all games are 70% cutscenes rn

I am not concerned with games having a cutscene I am concerned with the gameplay loop being „follow npc“ -> 20 minutes of cutscene -> „play game for 10 minutes“ -> „solve a stupid ass riddle“ -> 30 minutes of cutscene

And dialogues arent even a problem if the dialogues dont take you out of the game. Meaning if you have actual options of what to say and these option carry meaning within the game. The playstation formular completely takes away the game from you.

You might say God of War gameplay is fine but if half of that is walking, riddle solving, listening to stupid npcs without being able to do a thing and like 5 hours of cutscene then only half of the entire game has „good“ gameplay while the other 50% is trash

I don't think From Software's stories have ever been their main appeal. The appeal is just the challenge of beating a supposedly "hard" game.

I ain’t mad at all the hate Fromsoft getting in here because looking back how far they’ve come and how popular they’ve gotten the hate is a natural consequence of being a GOAT

I will say you read at a 3rd grade level if you don’t understand their stories though

See, I already knew what you were talking about before you even mentioned "the playstation formula"

Spiderman gameplay rocks. God of War gameplay f***ing rocks. I'm currently playing through Ghost of Tsushima and enjoying tf out of it. HZD was ass imo, except for the gameplay loop. If I have fun playing the game, Idrc about the cutscenes surrounding it (trailing missions suck tho, I agree with you)

Bloodborne gameplay was lioned but I'd have no idea wtf is going on if not for YouTubers like Vaatya. And that's bad imo. If I can't understand your game's story details by playing the game, you're doing something wrong

How else do you suggest they communicate plot details and relationships between characters if you're against cutscenes? Because it's either that or expecting the player to read walls of text. Not every game can have dialogue options. If the developer wants to tell a specific story, you'll have shoehorned choices that all result in the same outcome. Not every game is trying to be a Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, Witcher etc type RPG

Imo Heavy Rain, Become Human, maybe Life is Strange should be described as "movie games". Where the gameplay is minimal and cutscenes are the main focus. Using it to describe Sony exclusives is lazy af and just makes yall seem like salty Xbox owners. Funny how it's always Sony exclusives yall talking about and not GTA 5 or RDR 2 even though they have the same structure
