This is true, which is why I'm getting annoyed by people tryna downplay the movie as "Just a popcorn flick" or a "Run of the mill vampire movie".
"Woke From Dusk til Dawn" is something I've frequently been seeing getting tossed around by film nerds.
People can feel how they wanna feel about Sinners, but the constant downplaying of it has such a clear racial bias thing that can't be ignored.

Its maddening tbh, I get sick of the kinda weight that gets put on black films that reach these heights. People always gotta attach some guilt to it to make it seems like the film isn't what it is.

I f*** with Sinners heavy, but it’s definitely heavily inspired by Dusk til dawn, it took damn near they whole structure but put more meaningful themes behind it

Had my first rewatch since I saw it in theaters. I liked it a lot the first time but this second watch def elevated it. Still like OBAA more but this is a fantastic movie

Guess it's personal bias but I haven't liked all these genre pieces making it to the Oscars these past couple of years, feels like they cheapen the award because there's no way some of those should be considered for "movie of the year" (i.e. substance, wicked, EEAAO). Best film should be the best one, not the one with the most social media traffic. Just feel like these movies get that far because the voting committee skews younger now and everybody's unserious as f***/does meme picks because they're popular on social media, and they admittedly don't even watch everything

Jan 29The more I learn s*** about cinematography and scene writing that I never came across in my years of writing and capturing images, the more impressed I am by this film. It already hit immediately on every point of filmmaking and storytelling and acting, but it hits even more
The thing that makes this movie such a cultural force is also the thing that makes it so underrated and it’s a shame
