I just will never understand the idea of being someone who is NOT racist, accidentally saying something racist (out of your control) and as a human not wanting to apologize for the racist thing that was said.

IMO that just seems like a natural human thing to do if said human is truly not racist. It doesn't mean he has to apologize for every single moment, but THIS seems like a time to clear the air and let an entire race know how you feel in your heart.

Granted not everyone will accept an apology and still feel the way they do but at least for some of us, this would be a little easier to swallow (pause) if there was a little empathy shown on Johns part.
