Time for MBJ to silence the haters
We're rooting for him. Is another Coogler movie the answer? Idk but that's what we're getting
“Ryan Coogler’s Michael B Jordan Vampire Period movie” make a nigga wanna kill himself

Damn you don’t fw vamps??

it's just so random, I think lol. and such a mishmash of elements that don't make sense right now. I feel like we lost whatever coog was gonna become the second he got tasked with black panther.
MBJ just aint the guy, man.
This needs to be some 30 days of night gory insane s*** but it won't be, so why are we doing this

His best work was done with original Coogler.

That was supposed to be his next movie before we got all the BP s***

Nah I think Ryan still has some fire in him, it obv showed in the Black Panther movies when Feige wasn’t in his way.
And I can’t even lie, all my fav performances from MBJ are a Coogler collab (and the Wire). I really believe there’s a strong chance that this’ll turn out pretty good

Well that's mostly all he's been doing. If that's what you want, there's nothing to be discontent about.
I only watched the first Creed and hated it. I watched the first Black Panther and thought the leads were great even if Marvel did f*** all with the graphics. The sequel was shorn of those leads. And Fruitvale was touching in 2013, but I'd be afraid to rewatch it.
This sounds like a different turn at least. Really hope it's got a little edge. That's why Killmonger worked imo. Jordan works better as the foil.

Ahhh yes I remember that. That’s the filmmaker I wanted man.

Only thing promising so far is the budget imo

See I’m the opposite, thought Creed was great and thought he sucked in BP

That’s known already? They’re gonna give Ryan 100M+?

Creed is ideologically repellant to me. It's a fine sports movie with an inventive camera. The character himself sucks ass. The prince who was promised. Stock broker who moonlights in Tijuana and is destined for greatness. Not street at all then gets a Quad wheelie montage in Philly.
I watch a lot of boxing. Gervonta Davis was bouncing around foster homes. Shakur Stevenson was around shootings. The aspirational character of Creed does so much to erase the material conditions that black American fighters actually come from.
And ones who might not like Shawn Porter or Jarron Enis have very overbearing fathers behind them which would be much more interesting to examine.

I think they wanted to go away from stereotypical black stories that we always see “shootings, homeless, d****” etc.

Fatherless black man isn't "stereotypical"? That's like the only interesting thing happening in that movie. Rocky being a coach and father figure in place of Apollo. It's the truest to life, but it happens when he's a 26 year old stock broker.
Coach's often are literal fathers or just father figures. I would love to see a movie about a kind of toxic relationship fighters have with their parents and parental figures who push them to greatness. Floyd's dad and uncle are examples. Roy Jones Jr's dad was middling boxer. He tied Roy's arm behind his back and had him sparring. S*** is intense. Lupe Fiasco's dad was doing crazy s*** like that too.
Rocky was an everyman. The fantasy aspect is escaping the material conditions through hard work and determination. He doesn't even win the fight. He wins some dignity. He wins your heart.
People liked Majors in the third from what I hear. He's got a "stereotypical" story. Bernard Hopkins and Dwight Muhammad Qawi learned a lot of boxing in prison.
The franchise uses those elements already. Creed himself is a failure to me. Dramatically and in the context of Rocky's roots. There are so many real and interesting stories to tell. Creed was not it.
I'm a capeshit enjoyer obviously from my pfp.
and i love the first BP both as a movie and a cultural event, RIP Chadwick. even though it has its flaws (that third act chi was some cheeks).
But man Marvel really does lock down alot of these filmmakers. Think of how many potential great movies, even classics Coogler could have made had he not been in the Marvel/IP Machine for years.
He's only directed BP 1 and 2 crazy in the span of like 6 years

Lol idk ima fatherless black man
Lol idk ima fatherless black man
My dad died tragically when I was young. And when I watched Anatomy of a Fall and the kid gave his testimony it ruined me.
All that "stereotypical" s*** is trauma. I think it can be healing to at least see it in art. Treat it differently if you want but don't erase it. It's at the root of a lot of boxing stories.
