I blame Soviet Union and Cuba

Blame Siad Barre and the US for invading lol, Cuba and the USSR did nothing but help Ethiopia protect themselves from an aggressive invasion from a Somali ultranationalist attempting to annex Ethiopian territory.

Mf said blame Cuba and the USSR for a US-backed Somali invasion

If anything Fidel was way too naive about East Africa, he even proposed a socialist federation with Ethiopia and Somalia, but he learned Siad Barre was way too much of a Somali chauvinist for him to even entertain that idea.

It's a tragedy that the Somali people are still paying for Siad Barre's foolishness to this day.

so it's an outrage and a tragedy when putin bombs ukraine

all the while these motherfuckers have been consistently bombing somalia for 14 years. they couldn't even read the proverbial room and realize how bad it looks to be bombing the s*** outta some black/brown people while a whole other possibly more serious conflict is going on in europe.

No, obviously Siad Barre has much to do with it, but those countries brought socialism to two complicated states without knowing its history. and now both Ethiopia and Somalia are paying the price – Somalia twice as much considering they lost the war which led to a civil war which left the country in the wreck it is today.

Also, did you forget how they switched sides, US included?

F*** are you talking about lmao they didn't bring socialism to those countries, especially not Cuba.

I don't know the details about Somalia, but the Ethiopian revolution was an organic one lead by a widespread student movement and not one imposed from outside at all.

And they didn't switch sides, they supported both Ethiopia and Somalia until Somalia invaded Ethiopia, it's the US who saw this as an opportunity to create a divide in East Africa and between socialist countries, two birds kne stone. Which they have continued to do later on, supporting the ethnonationalist TPLF in Ethiopia to this day.

That the USA does this w the TPLF has to do with them opposing Russia everywhere they can or it really comes down to capitalism vs communism still?

Ethiopia doesn't have much natural resources right, besides some gold and oil?

Well mostly to fight Chinese influence in Africa. The TPLF were their most reliable lapdogs in the region, that zoommeeting where American diplomats were nostalgically reminiscing over the good ol days with TPLF members was very revealing.

Also instability in the country would slow down the dam being built and filled.
