to give people an idea of the real level of retaliation to expect, the US literally shot down an iranian civilian plane in the late 80s and Iran has still never actually targeted any US civilians. the US and Israel released stuxnet to target iran as well as assassinated iranian nuclear scientsists and iran still didn't do anything back. The US has repeatedly pushed Iran with violence and escalation and Iran has never targeted civilians even so. The closest is Hezbollah considering Iranian sponsorship, but Hezbollah is far more focused on tensions in Lebanon and Israel rather than attacking the US. the media is currently spreading fearmongering like they're going to commit 9/11 or something. It's not going to happen. Iran will surely retaliate just as it retaliated with cyber-attacks post Stuxnet but they aren't going to just escalate a full scale war, the country would basically be playing all of their cards at once if so.
