I was watching Jimmy Jam's youtube live last week and he was talking about Usher and celebrating 8701's 20th anniversary.

Turns out, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis played Seduction for both Janet and Usher. Janet started working on it, but at the same time Usher was too. They were also in the same studio; Usher upstairs, Janet downstairs.

Janet went upstairs to find Jam and Lewis but heard them playing what she thought was her song. Usher came in a few mins later and they basically argued for a few mins until Janet just let Usher have it.
