Ps “exclusives” end up going to steam eventually. PS has no games

They have to wait a year or two tho no?

Hopefully we can just connect an Xbox controller to this too. That steam controller looks like some nutassery

I was thinking to cop a ps5 because I wanted to play in my living room sometimes and my switch got old (and I wanted something to play GTAVI first day). This seems very interesting but the fact that its a bit less powerful (?) than a 5yo game console really does it for me.

If I ever cop this its because it have a very good price (which I doubt) and i already have a huge steam library

Series X and PS5 are better I think. Upscaling will do a lot of the heavy lifting on this, and I imagine this will cost more than those systems do.

Plus SteamOS limitations (COD etc) will limit the library if you want online play.

I feel like the niche this appeals to already have better options available.

I would get this if it’s less than $500. I don’t care about graphics enough to splurge on a beefed up machine (Anything graphically demanding can be played on my ps5 anyways). The plug n play aspect is a selling point here. I can play some higher-performing indie games and most AAA titles on this little box? Free online? Emulators? Half life alyx in my living room? Very nice to me. I need to see more hands-on impressions, but I’m into this.

But again, the retail price is going to make/break this thing

Valve can afford to sell this at a loss. Money is made on the software. Lower barrier of entry = more people in their ecosystem.

It will almost definitely be cheaper than $700. Probably cheaper than $500. Cheaper than $400 and you won’t be able to even get a hold of this thing

Valve has said they’re pricing it like a pc instead of console. Console’s are sold at affordable prices because the manufacturer are able to buy the discounted parts in bulk and can afford to take a loss on profits because spending on their storefronts and services offset them.

This is a PC so you’ll be able to buy this and never spend a dime in steam’s ecosystem. instead installing windows and using it as a productivity station. This becomes an even bigger problem for valve it’s priced cheaper than other low cost PCs.

Steam has no paid services to generate money either. Plus tariffs and PC parts just being expensive in general. There’s no way this isn’t $700 minimum. You can try build an equivalent pc to this right now and it’s not cheap.

Sony can get cheaper parts through deals, take a loss, sell 100 million consoles and have ps plus be their main money maker. Valve doesn’t have that luxury.

I’d be surprised if this sells more than the steam deck which has only sold 4 million (valve also said pricing the steam deck was difficult for them)

They’ll sell this at a profit and offer more options for how to play for people already in their ecosystem. That will be its niche

Tho I could be wrong and valve takes a loss and what ever happens, happens

If we can easily do emulation on this and basically turn it into an old Nintendo / Sony / Xbox game machine, I might have to cop

It really might be. I’m a console guy and would NEVER think of doing PC. But this s*** is VERY tempting. Having a simple console box that can do emulation easily. I’ve been waiting for something like this. I’m someone Steam is tryna reach and this s*** has me excited. If they price this right, this game shake up the industry

The next Xbox is going to be this thing but on steroids anyways so you can always wait

But I’m still tempted to get it based on how far out the next Xbox hardware is
