it's really not at all, random ass take. the slopocalypse is affecting the prices of everything including proprietary consoles. locked down hardware is an actual scam if anything

it's a scam because everything has gotten exponentially expensive and no matter how much you spend many times games aren't optimized correctly for your exact setup and you have to keep upgrading year after year to keep up. my brother is a huge pc gamer type and built me one himself, i know how scammy this s*** is. locked down hardware guarantees a certain experience at a much lower cost

    that's a scam too

$750 still would’ve been kinda high

I have zero interest in PC all my life but the Steam Machine had me interested and I would have 100% purchased at $750. Ain’t no way I’m spending $1128 on this s*** when the Helix will probably be similarly priced and probably twice as powerful

You do not have to upgrade year after year man

And imma need that steam machine even if I have to F*** SUCK AND SWALLOW

you kinda do though, they're transient and need to be replaced eventually if you want to keep up with the latest tech. my brother built me his pc out of all his old parts since he had to keep upgrading and changing s*** within a 5 year span it's a complete world of difference between that and dropping $500 on a console every 6-8 years

Pc and steam library in the living room without hauling pc to tv / long hdmi cord / unstable streaming

    Good idea… bad timing

Sadly Xbox helix probably the move if they deliver what they are promising if you want that

I haven't upgraded anything the 4 years since I built my PC. I still run everything at 3440x1440 on high-ultra settings.

They f***ed up as soon as they raised steam deck prices and pigeon holed themselves into being peripheral sellers only (controller , frame) instead of being to able to move consoles , it was obvious this s*** would be 1200

$1.5k. But you said it doesn't matter how much you spend, you still have to upgrade every single year. So which is it

That's just how it be. That's the PC gaming life. Buy a console every 5-8 years and call it a day. It's the best option for the masses.

not even close to a scam, wtf are you talking about with this dumbass reactionary post lmfao

  • If you want to spend $750 to play a video game on console, you buy a console. If you want to spend $750 to play a video game on PC, you build a PC. If you want to spend $1,500 to play a video game on PC, you build a PC.

Most people say they want to play on PC and then they get one issue they need to troubleshoot and then their entire life falls apart. Ppl can't even be patient and play the used market to get a better bang for their buck and insist all PC gaming is a scam

The Steam Machine wasn't going to be your savior. At the end of the day it's a tiny PC with Linux that has a nice little UI based around Steam. People expecting $500 were dreaming.
