excited to tinker with it later. i ran some non steam games that i already added into steam and it seemed to work fine. only thing i don't love immediately is the puck, i'm used to the 8bitdo dock. mechanism has a dock that is supposed to come out this month so hopefully that's a nice solutionjust got the email about the dock from mechanism, looks pretty slick

Jun 27Trash Starno idea. i just find them to be an extreme annoyance
they also have a history of releasing half baked products and then blaming their customers. i remember when the killswitch for the switch 2 came out their dock adapter had a lot of issues and their grips would interfere with the magnets in the joycons causing them to disconnect from the system. they spent weeks saying it was working as intended and that there weren't any issues, just a few fringe cases. they had to be bullied into offering replacements and fixes lol
Yeah dbrand can do some good stuff but the switch 2 thing was hilarious to watch unfold
And their marketing is full edgelord unfunny crap which is off-putting especially given the cost of their stuff

this is a part of the start of valve migrating people slowly away from windows, to their linux based steam os system. now that windows games run on it. and if they expand that to other programs, they probably will get a lot of people jumping ship.
window’s moving towards just an ai assisted surveillance program, that runs like garbage and only exists to keep people trapped in their rapidly expanding windows ecosystem.
if windows moved to cut out third party game stores, to push people towards game pass and their own store, valve will already be situated to capitalize on it, instead of it ruining them

imo linux gaming still has a way to go before its 1:1 with windows experience and i say this as someone that's been around linux for a long time and likes tinkering, I ended up moving to 11 LTSC since the last time i installed arch on my main gaming rig
i think valve is leading that path but theres still growing pains for nvidia drivers for example and it isn't seamless, windows just works while linux distros tend to throw you little problems to deal with like a bunch of papercuts

totally agree.
the steam os and these machines, are just the start of it. valve is situating itself for 10-20 years out.
it is also growing. before 2020 amount of people using linux with steam games was less than 1%
this year its between 3.7-4%. which is a 4X increase.
even 2 years ago, it was only 2%.
I think its a safe bet this will keep growing as windows becomes worse and linux (including steam os) becomes more accessible.
plus valve being reliant on windows allowing them to be the main videogame sales point, is not a gamble, but a ticking time bomb of when that will no longer be the case. they operate at the whim of one of the greediest companies on earth. so theres no choice but to make it work.
