awful. i've been following this and yea I expect the death toll to rise into the thousands. in addition to the death toll, so many people seriously injured and so many houses and infrastructure lost. a major tragedy. thoughts and condolences to those affected

absolutely heartbreaking tragedy

the most infuriating part about earthquake casualties and major damages is usually that they could be greatly reduced and kept low if the buildings were built to sustain earthquakes well. similar to the earthquake to kill so many in turkey couple years ago, majority of these buildings were cheaply built with minimum ressources, ignoring safety protocols and subsequently costing human lives

especially the caracas is apparently extremely prone to earthquakes

Estimates the same over 10k deaths, and horrifically could be even greater than 100k according to the estimate though I’m not sure what method is used exactly
