we were celebrating my friends birthday and playing this board game in a public space, then some person sat down with us for a chat and then got her friends to join us. we dont know none of these people but theres like five of us so f*** it why not. so we talk to these guys and aside from generally not vibing with them at all one of them at some point pulls out a phone and starts recording a short video for his ig or some, lens all up in everyones face and all. we're like wow okay cool cool and then he tells us he films blogs for his new youtube channel but we werent too interested

well some time later motehrfucker straight up starts FILMING US HORIZONTALLY in the middle of a game and not just a quick sweep but getting footage for his s*** with everyones face and reactions and recording for a long long time. lemme tell you bro that s*** felt like straight violation of multiple people, everyone got extremely, extremely uncomfortable. we tried to play it off like haha filming us without consent is kinda crazy you f***er haha and he apologized but then KEPT DOING THAT as more of that groups friends started coming through

at that point we jus packed up and moved to other tables because its now like five other people we dont know so f*** em. and we're at another table right and dude !!!just keeps filming us standing up kinda in secret!!! hey man i shouldve made a scene thinking back but it was my girls birthday so i didnt wanna make it a memory. anyways rant over and if you see a blogger tell em to die. its probably not a surprise that people are super weirded out by this and most people you see on vlogs look very awkward. well because thats very antisocial and invasive so please dont do that!!

It’s a display of dominance. You and your friend group were sadly dominated in that moment by a douche bag extrovert but if it makes you feel better he only wins if the content gets the views he hopes.

But overall I have no issue with vloggers/IRL streamers

  • just ignore them

If they aren’t bothering anyone and just recording themselves what’s the issue?

It's the culture that I loathe. That whole 'holier than you' and overly self important materialistic blend of the internet and reality that gets me. I'm old enough to remember when these douchebags like Ray William Johnson and SHAYTARDS were at the forefront to this 'vlogging' bullshit and even then it was old. At least with them it was more like s*** posting on the internet for fun and it seemed more organic.

Meanwhile the new kids were lost from the go and essentially try to capitalize off of an internet following without having some sort of discernible talent apart from "I look better than you" or "I have more money than you". Now we have these annoying little s*** head pests like Jack Dorhety or whatever the f*** his name is for being famous "pranking people" and his spawn of low IQ imbeciles with technology.

I'm over it man I probably sound out of touch but I'd rather be that then consuming whatever mind numbing s*** this is nowadays.

Also to clarify I was just kidding above. Obviously someone who's using the internet to actually promote a real business or talent is one thing. It's the "I'm going to market myself as my own brand" people that can fall off of a cliff.

  • for YTers, you become nothing but "content" once they hit record and view you through that camera screen

Vloggers and corny tiktokers putting a camera in everyone’s faces are super annoying. Had it happen to a coworker and there was almost a whole incident with police.

kinda feel bad for people…it’s normalized romanticizing the most basic of events or s*** you’re doing all for social media. saw a girl go to Beyoncé’s mom restaurant for content and she just sounded like Meg the entire time tryna get everyone excited about her about to eat gumbo

not saying she didn’t have a moment with Bey’s mom before or after the video, but it felt like everything was for the content and not the experience, if that makes any sense

One time at work a customer came in with this tiny object attached to a stick. I asked her what it was and she looked at me annoyed, clicked something on it, and said “I’m recording a vlog, please don’t acknowledge the camera”

this is so on point, the whole trying to force a life thing into a screen and actually act that way about it is so very strange. fake excitement and everything, people did that before and it was kinda awkward but there was never this third actor thats going to eventually see our situation. my friends keep snapping these random ass photos from under their breath thinking people dont notice and then put them in their fake lolrandom photo dumps just fishing for ig content
