Most Apple shows usually start out with small, passionate base and then grow based off word of mouth. Apple doesn't go crazy on marketing.

I feel like that's what helped Severance a ton. There were no high expectations, just a cool concept people attached to and were patient with. On KTT it barely hit 10 pages by the finale. It was only the realization post-finale that this was something special where word of mouth spread like wildfire

This has a far larger crowd than who'd naturally be into this and a huge range of expectations. It'll prob shed some audience and gain others at some point.

Which probably is why s2 of severance got a lot more hate even though it’s arguably better than the first season

Imo Netflix doesn't really have any fewer standouts over the years than its competition outside of like HBO and Apple.

It has a lot of output and therefore a lot of crap sure, but you can still find the same amount of stuff in a year that'd you'd pay attention to on its competitors.
