I disagree hard with him on this but I think the reason why media criticism (music and movies mainly) is so s*** now is because it’s just very ideological now. Critics no longer evaluate art on its own merits. They evaluate them if they have a style or a sound that fits their own personal aesthetic and are largely very ecstatic for s*** that echoes their own moral/political/ ideological viewpoints. It’s why film and music criticism is just an echo chamber now rather than something to take seriously.

The world needs critics who can comment on the latter aspect, not just ideological hacks
