A bassline that reminds u of tame impala mean the album is a tame impala rip
You got it brother not arguing about a baseline that sounds like tame impala lol
I think what is stopping me from really heralding this album is a couple things:
1. Feel like he got his point across more explicitly on Hands Up
2. Yes, experimentation should be encouraged but I feel the “we should say this is great just off the attempt” sentiment some of yall saying itt is infantilizing rappers so much lol. Like I can’t just artificially add points to a work if I feel the experiment fell a bit ‘flat’ ESPECIALLY when an album like this but 10000x better has already been done, it’s called Negro by Pink Siifu.
Big Bad Wolf and Cotton go tho.

both albums reflecting the anger of what the black man is going through in the face of not just law enforcement but the government as a whole through a backdrop of harsh tones.
and since this is basically rap rock (but a bit more subdued), yes, I can say both albums are similar.

Sure yea I see what u mean both fuse rock with rap music to an extent to give that message but it’s different framing and entirely different sounds goals and mood they go for,
crybaby is clearly aswell about his time in the music industry under def jam and is explicitly meant to be sung its protest music it’s poppy he’s singing and rapping traditionally pulling from American rock music from the 50s-now
negro is the opposite it’s super harsh noisy short songs screaming that resemble something more like minor threat it pulls from hardcore punk noise rock and industrial
It’s like comparing the clash to minor threat or something. Rock is a pretty broad genre 2 attempts at integrating aspects of it can be radically dif

I like when Vince experiments but tbh I think something needs to push him into having that spark again in his music. Like this is different but he still sounds a bit uninspired although this the direction of music we need concept wise cause this the only album by a rap artist reflecting the times

I think he's moreso saying that siifu actually put his best foot forward with negro in terms of executing the sound he was going for. To where negro doesn't sound like a waterdown version of the sound he was going for in the way that crybaby does while both explore similar themes
