update...so my Clipping. vinyl arrived but unfortunately was defective and had to be returned...getting another one shipped as replacement that hopefully will be alright but seems like a pressing issue so idk...at least 3 songs skipped all the way through though and wasn't anything wrong with the records physically...solid album just hoping for a better copy this time around

what's your set-up looking like i got an entry level turntable and i'm keen to upgrade soon if i'm ever gonna realise the true sound potential of my collection.

honestly I just have one of those Victrola 5 in 1 players...was given to me as a gift a few years ago and hasn't really crapped out on me yet or disappointed me so sticking with it...may hook up some better speakers to it but idk...I'm no expert unfortunately but what I have sounds good to me
also as another update I ordered a 2nd copy of that clipping. vinyl which had the same issues as the first unfortunately so must be a pressing f*** up...either way just sent back for a refund :( great album but terrible pressing

you’re gonna ruin your records buddy

why do you say that? Doesn't help to make a blanket statement like that without some context

those players usually don't have counterweights which can cause the needle to be applying too much force to your records, which will ruin the grooves over time. also, since those don't do a good job of applying the right tracking force, that could be the main reason why your records are skipping so much

does yours at least have a counterbalance spring?

don't have issues with any other records just both copies of that clipping. one which leads me to believe it's an issue with the pressing for those...any other records I play sound great

i have one of those 5 in 1 joints they sound pretty good for me and worth the money i dropped on it.
gonna hook it up to my bluetooth sony zeppelin this week to see how it sounds.
they still ain't pressed die lit on wax
that's basically a licence to print money and it hasn't had the wax treatment smh vinyl is done.
toying with the idea of dropping my wallet on 36 chambers that rough underground unadulterated raw basement sound must sound so good on a turntable
Is the House Of Ballons are really bad pressing? The reviews on Amazon say that even brand new copies skip a lot. I want to get it because it’s one of my favorite albums of all time but I don’t to waste money on a record that skips.
It ain’t the best music format
It isn't the best format, because that's subjective.
Objectively it offers a more detailed sound than a traditional dac, and source, because it is non discreet.
If you a/b an expensive vinyl setup vs an expensive digital setup there is limited benefit imo.
The algorithms used to connect the discreet points from a good dac have gotten good enough to to where you get killer sound.
Most of the hate for digital came from when it was first introduced. That being said it is a better format for those who chose to collect and listen to vinyl because it offers a better experience.
If you want to argue that digital entirely sounds better than a***ogue, again I would argue that it is subjective, but the odd harmonics from a a***ogue amp are much more pleasing and can add a layer of depth you can never achieve fully transistor, or even with an opt-amp Pre amp.
I would 100% also argue that for chromtic listening vinyl is better.
Connect a vinyl to a tube to passive speakers that were manufactured at the time of that pressing and you are in for a craaaazy good experience.
Music is typically mixed for the equipment consumers are using at the time. Equipment of the time is typically made to sound good with the music of the time.

don't own it so can't speak on that but how recent were these bad reviews?...I had a similarly bad experience with ordering vinyl through amazon lately and had to return 2 copies that both skipped terribly though there weren't any scratches or anything on the records themselves so seemed like a pressing problem there as well
does yours at least have a counterbalance spring?
I don't believe it does but as I mentioned previously those clipping. records were the only ones I've had that issue with...all my other records play fine and sound great which is why I assume it's an issue with the pressing of those records...is a counterbalance something you can install yourself on any player or better to just invest in one that includes it down the line?

i was thinking of buying too, but it's not that high on my wishlist, so i ll wait a few more months.
march next year is the 10 year anniversary, i would be surprised if they don't put out a nice re release for this occasion.
would recommend waiting until then
