Every genre has something that defines it. In r&b that trait has and always will he the ability to sing. That and writing are mutually exclusive.
Hip hop, the lyrics have and always will be what matters the most & was what made hip hop stand out to begin with.
It’s no coincidence the less emphasis that has been placed on bars and more on “vibes” the less popular hip hop has been lately lolololol
no doubt. thats whats interesting though, things have really shifted if we're considering artists like uzi / carti / whoever to be in the same genre
and whats fascinating about drake is he balances s*** like that with r&b and pop s*** and still will claim hes the best rapper and once in a while he'll go out and truly bar out. thats what puts him in all these discussions but he fits kinda awkwardly into all of the boxes
