Do you think the voting age should be changed in America? Should there be a cap on how old you can be to vote? Should they lower the voting age?

I think the voting age of 18 is a total joke tbh. IMO it should be lowered to 16. if you are old enough to get your drivers license you should be old enough to vote. if you are 16 during an election year, by the time that president you couldn't vote for term is done you are now 20 years old, in college/first real job. you might have bills to pay, a car, rent. and you are dealing with all the stuff your local government/fed gov has changed in the last 4 years...all stuff you couldn't vote for.

I also think the voting age should be capped, maybe at 80-85 years old...for obvious reasons.

Absolutely no reason for it to be capped whatsoever other than young people not liking the opinions of old people. Also it’s fine at 18 because niggas in high school can barely form actually informed opinions on politics

Older folks are definitely more susceptible to being led to believe something tho.

But a cap like that is impractical

I guess but older people being incompetent is on a case by case basis so it would be messed up to just deny a whole people the right to vote cause they’re a certain age. It would send a message that they’ve outlived their usefulness or something

    Lower it to 14-16

Not really, 18 year olds are off in college and working more hours, they’re often contribute to society at a higher level then those younger than them. I mean not as much as 22 year olds but still

Isn’t young people being incompetent on a case-by-case basis as well?

Well you just answered the question right there. Once you turn 18 you really start contributing more to society, hence greater privileges. 16 year old's aren't really contributing to society, in the fact that they don't file taxes, live on their own, etc.

And 18 is still very young. Say someone lives till they're 80, that's still only around 20% of their total life.

Yeah, but they didn’t grind as hard as us so it’s whatever. Plus their usually in the custody of their parents and in mandatory education

I didn’t really have a question, I was just saying I think 18’s old enough to vote

Then we in agreement I don't think it should be lowered, maybe I misunderstood what you originally said

Yeah I was arguing that it’s just fine at 18 cause people younger don’t have the same mental processes or contributions to society

interesting question really because both ends of the spectrum contain large quantities of people who can be largely uninformed

  • Jun 10, 2020

Old folks are complete dumbasses but theres no way a cap like that would be fair

  • Jun 10, 2020

    yeah drop it to 16

  • If anything they should change the age to a obtain drivers license to 18

Nobody votes in the US as is. The demographic isn't really the problem. The electoral college is definitely a bigger issue as far as presidential races are concerned. Regardless of who votes, you still have to draw districts. That's not an objective process. And even if you address all of that, there's no moral value to turnouts or majorities.
