Nah, TLOP had an intentional track-list. I couldn't imagine another 4 tracks opening the album, and Saint Pablo is the perfect closer.

Later albums had decent sequencing too. Ye and JIK had cinematic openers/closers that acted as bookends, with their respective mid-sections mostly interchangeable.

I even thought Donda had fairly thought-out sequencing, with Off The Grid, Hurricane, and Praise God, being one of Ye's BEST 3 track runs in his discogs.

BUT "Donda (deluxe)" completely threw all that out the window; shuffling all the tracks around, and slapping pt.2's in the middle of the track-list.

I wouldn't mind IF, this wasn't the version first-timers ran to when listening to Donda. The Deluxe is an objectively worse listening experience, and I feel bad for anyone who's first introduction to this masterpiece was it's botched and bloated successor.

The release of the deluxe was a clear indicator that Ye didn't give a s*** about how the public received his music. Even if his earlier works' sequencing wasn't air-tight, this sequencing was so bad, it misrepresented the music and hurt the listening experience.

TLOP was the first time he showcased his iterative process. Public was made aware of the changes he makes which continued well after release. This encouraged a greater and more flexible form of interaction with his music. For instance, for me, the definitive version of Feedback is the earlier one in which the Talagh sample appears in the opening verse instead of the second. The album, with all its mix updates, spawned multiple versions which people were pirating more than streaming. The illegal downloads is something he acknowledged himself on a track that ended up on the album itself. And that's important because, depending on how you look at it, his acknowledgement is also a sort of license to engage how you wish. "imma fix wolves" was a bit of a shift. Since then, I doubt anyone's music has been more remixed, "fixed", built upon and shared online by fans and musicians.

The idea of a listening party also started there. Someone can correct me if I am wrong but during the event he did not play songs in the exact order of the tracklisting which he had advertised for the album.

I am also certain that this entire notion of a Kanye tracker started there, necessitated not only by leaks but there existing multiple official versions of songs,

The most intriguing aspect of how he approaches music now is how little he actually talks about it, especially given the amount of attention he gives to every other subject. He is not the same person/artist he used to be, but that the craft is still there, and that he values it, is probably true given I dont get the same feeling from his music today that I do when he appears on a Justin Laboy show

    Nah V1 better

    V2 not much replay value

    Donda
    TLOP
    Vultures 1
    JIK
    Ye

I really don't know where to put V2. Donda and TLOP are tiers above the rest. Vultures 2 might be below JIK or above V1, depending on the day. It's just I can't really live with Sky City being on the album. It doesn't feel right and sounds bad even if you disregard the AI.

I would give V2 the slight edge based off how great some of these songs are. Time Moving Slow is peak post prime Ye. That's about as good a record as he can make in 2024 imo Field Trip-Fried back to back would've had teenage me in danger drunk driving to and from parties lol Promotion is dope, 530 is dope, Life Style is dope, River is that classic Donda/JIK Ye, Forever is the best he's rapped in a minute. I just don't find that many bad songs on V2. Bomb is a skip sure, but its interesting at least lol(I enjoyed Talking), Dead has a Mercy/Put On'esque Ye verse that makes the record imo, Sky City is beautiful, don't care too much about My Soul. And Husband is just not good imo.

But I'm not a huge fan of Keys to My Life or Back To Me. Both good records, but nothing incredible. And Paperwork to me is also good but on V2 would sound a bit like a lull. Don't really like Carnival much and King is cool but not much replay value. Love Hoodrat(yes, I know ), Do It, Burn, Vultures, Fuk Sumn & Problematic. Beg Forgiveness epic but not replay value. Not saying V2 is 3x better but I give it the slight edge.

I just need Poppin man please

  • hot pancakes

Hahah it was all through the thread not even 1 single post

I remember basically saying how he was washed and the old ye would never release something with the mixes so unfinished and off, and sloppy delivered lyrics

I’ve since reduced my hate of the album a lot, and eventually found some enjoyment out of it. but it’s still at the bottom of my list lol

I honestly tried to find enjoyment but after On God shuts off, it just disappears lmao

I do like God Is and Hands On though
