i definitely think river is that song, it's just that vultures 2 is so bad as a whole that it doesn't really matter lol.

i agree that vultures is bad, but i don’t like criticism like this. what is creatively bankrupt about it? its execution is terrible but there’s tons of creative ideas all over that album

Coldest Winter bqould be nmy pick of this theme for 808s, but 808s isnt Rap so i ledt it out

I almost did We Major in addition to Bring me Down for LR as well, but it is mainly just a song about weed just done in an incredible high effort way lmao but still one of my favs and one of his best instrumentals of all time

    I can agree with that.

I personally view the Vultures series as kinda like side quests for Ye to put himself back on the map similar to Cruel Summer.

The songs can be very enjoyable but most don't have that classic and transcendent feel to them that can be passed for generations. Even Donda, like you said, had those types of songs which is why I can't cosign niggas who try to claim Donda has similar quality to JIK or V1/V2 at all.

That said, I do think a case can be made that Carnival is a classic bop from Ye that's his biggest smash hit since I Love It.

Also, Burn has a lot of throwback vibes with the sample and Ye sounding the least phoned in on the album, making for an enjoyable yet short experience.

V2, to me, is just a playlist but I can see a handful of songs being cult classics at best like River and Lifestyle. Take Off The Dress has the classic Ye vibe too albeit its stunted by being a bonus track.

Vultures series is cool for what it is and has some joints that I can revisit. It serves its purpose just like Cruel Summer did but it's definitely not on par with his actual classics or even Donda imho partly for the post you made.

    Nah.

    More like after 2021.

Too many good songs came out of the Wyoming Sessions, Yandhi leaks, and Donda.

I still listen to KSG daily.

    That's fair.
I like Daytona the most from that period but I'm not too crazy about the rest.

Still on Cruel Summer we got some anthems like Mercy, Clique, Dont Like. On Vultures Ye is on autopilot

Carnival is technically an anthem but it's true that the singles from CS are better.

    Never Let me Down

    Bring me Down

    Flashing Lights

    Runaway

    No Church in the Wild

    Sin City

Blood on the Leaves + Hold My Liquor

    Ghost Town 1

    Free (Ghost Town 2)

    Jail + 24 + Come to Life

Hms: Wolves - if it didnt have terrible rap verse & Closed on Sunday - if it didnt have the corny chorus & To the World - if the whole song wasnt a mess. But you get the point.

This what Vultures 1 n 2 and current kanye is missing.

The song of the project that pushes Rap and even music in general to a realm beyond that is only done by Kanye. That "artsy" & expansive song that is unthinkable beforehand that he has done since College Dropout on almost every project.

You not wrong but to the Tiktok generation Carnival might be that song lol

Nah Donda 2021 was a beautiful experience that reminded us of who Kanye is. It should've been that year that he went out with a bang.

  • Sep 25, 2024

All this talk about when Ye should've retired. Perfect discographies are overrated and only something NFR podcast type dudes get excited about. Every artist needs a couple flops in his catalog. If they don't, they usually fall into the boring category
