3. Spring 2024 (April–June). A smaller slump, at 1,688 a month.
Long-term trends
- The thread got more conversational. Replies per post climbed steadily from about 0.55 in 2023 to about 0.79 since mid-2025. - It also got meaner. Hostility held around 1% for three years, then roughly doubled from fall 2025 onward. Part of the first jump coincides with the switch between the two datasets, so that step is less certain. But the rise continued within the new data, from 1.6% in fall 2025 to 2.1% in 2026, so the meaner recent era is real.
- VZs faded early. VZ talk went from about 11% at launch to 3–5% in 2023 and 1–2% from 2024 on. My first chart overstated it because of the post-header problem, which is now fixed.
