You're right OP but also the sooner you get off the obsession of buying things from these artists besides music the better. If you see a cool shirt or something from an artist you like in the thrift store or something go ahead I'm telling you it's miles more satisfying. The merch thing died with Pablo.

This man literally funded his venture off of money he received from fans who purchased expensive merchandise that he still hasn’t shipped It’s so disgusting talking about how you read luxury magazines seeing things you couldn’t afford and talking down on that condition, only to open a firm that literally pursues the same business point of artificial pricing. You couldn’t even address the trouble you’ve caused your fan base but instead talk about how you only don’t own a yacht because you get seasick.

There’s absolutely no regard for the people who came and gave you this platform of acclaim

His journey into what he calls “hard goods” began with a stint of bohemian DIY in LA in 2019, when he moved a group of 20 craftsmen friends into his house for his “Summit”, a secretive collective dedicated to developing designs. The house was virtually empty, surrounded by an expanse of land. Ocean’s concept was to use the time for experimentation: “We had everyone from horticulturalists to electrical engineers and architects, carpenters and metalworkers. We made tables and chairs, wired the lighting, then started working on other things for the house.”

This entire artistic process seems to be a delusional and frivolous exercise in materialism that’s only furthered by the fact that he totally jipped his extremely dedicated fan base on things that they bought from him

And the entire artificial expensiveness of this HOMER s*** is even more disgusting. How do you do this stuff knowing your audience will not be those who came to you when you released nostalgia ULTRA or Channel ORANGE but rather rich snobs who have nothing better to spend their money on than lab grown diamonds.

It’s like there’s a level of greed being satiated in this business move and not an artistic desire. The pieces aren’t even anything worth writing home about and are a total derivative of KAWS and Murikami and Nigo’s work

Yes. I agree with you, also that f***ing thread in the frank section is literally a textbook case of parasocial relationships. You have the op constantly hugging nuts talking about "y'all don't pay attention man, frank a genius man. he so smart he deserves this." You do not know the mother f***er, he doesn't know you. You're not even what that brand is targeting. F***ing cringe

I'm not gonna lie I didn't articulate this that well it's very off the top and made me sound mean as f*** lol. S***, like it's just weird to constantly have people talk about how someone who doesn't know they exist is deserving of an insane amount of wealth, or how that person should grieve, or whatever type of discourse/behavior that kind of stannery enables.

also, as a black artist, you are not allowed to venture into anything but screen printed gildan tee shirts or else you get kids on forums talking down on you like this.

here we go with the "as a black artist" takes yall love f***ing making.

Such a terrible argument and complete deflection of the point he tryna make

It's just so dumb and I know it's never going to stop but the whole thing with artists releasing merch way before the album and s*** defeats the purpose to me. I have a Daft Punk tee from the homework era and I wear it because I've already developed a relationship with the music.

I love Call me if you get lost but I'm glad I found out a good portion of the album was about f***ing dirty macking before I bought the merch.. "hype" is dumb with shoe/clothes but this attitude regarding music doesn't make any sense.

We’ll I had formed a relationship with Blond as an album and wanted to buy it for a reason beyond simple aesthetics and I got f***ed for it

I agree with you and I'm sorry bro. I'm just saying use this as a learning experience because you're obviously very upset and i understand why. But ever since Kanye did the whole Trump s*** and I realized how betrayed I felt over a man that DOES NOT KNOW I EXIST it made me laugh at myself and realize all this hype and merch, new ventures these guys go into is irrelevant.

It's fun to look at but these dudes live on a different planet. I'm not telling you how to spend your money but think carefully in the future because bro it's not worth it. I paid 75 dollars for a Gildan t-shirt from Pablo that I ended up not even liking that shrank because I got wrapped up in the hype.

Y’all some babies for thinking any artist should take care of your feelings, they make art and you like it, that’s your relationship with them. Them continuing to give you art is more than most in life will give you. anything beyond that, especially business ventures, is irrelevant.

Frank doesn’t even give them art but will happily take their money. They have every right to get mad
