Right, I’m worried that it could be a possible future tho
S*** Disney is already a machine so
if wb are saying its only for next year than i doubt it
netflix makes content at a way faster pace than wb and disney or any other studio tho
yeah with half the production value/scale.
I think Netflix and any streaming service for that matters best gauge at what “great content” is is by continuing to go to film festivals. That’s when most these services pick up great material. Because the films already made and just now needs a home.
Problem is Netflix doesn’t promote these great indies as much and rather heavily promote the Day 1 Netflix originals (meaning the film was made for Netflix from the very start) and alotta those times those films are just quick cash grabs.
It’s not that Netflix doesn’t have great originals, it’s that they don’t promote them and you just didn’t realize they were on their app

feel like netflix barely promotes any original content unless its season 2 of a show that became a hit
if wb are saying its only for next year than i doubt it
If this proves to be successful I can see this being the norm for them tho
That HBO Max money goes directly to them
like strangers things wasnt even promoted but then it became a hit and s2 was everywhere
Bruh its not that I dont care for the theater experience. Its simply me just being fine with either watching it at home or at a theater. Im not bothered either way cus I'm getting a great experience regardless. Saw Endgame in theaters and at home and both times were cool. Im not gonna s*** on someone for wanting to see it at theaters cus I get it yall like the experience of the crowd being there with you. I just think its whack how theres certain niggas in here turning their nose up like you're doing a disservice to the directors just cus you watched the film at home. Thats all
I mean fam you just said “I don’t need a crowd reaction”, that’s part of the experience. I’m not downplaying you saying you don’t care as if it’s a diss, just simply it sounds like as long as the movies good it doesn’t matter where you view it

Also with your last point, I ignore people thinking that. Yes directors would love to see there movies get the full treatment but at the end of the day they just want their films to be watched and enjoyed from wherever. To me it isn’t a disservice at all and I think this move is smart.
You gotta remember Netflix wants to be a one size fits all for everybody. They aren’t just trying to s*** out Oscar worthy content for guys like us because if they did they wouldn’t have very many subscribers. Netflix goal has always been to be the new replacement of cable. So in order to do so you have to also have the bad, cus believe it or not movies like Hubie Halloween, Kissing booth, etc. is what’s bringing in subscriptions. Causal tv watchers like corny s*** like that.
I treat it as if it ain’t for me then I ignore it, but truth of the matter is Netflix has really great original content like the ones you named plus The Irishman, Da 5 bloods, and more. They are also really good at picking up great films from festivals and picked up a few impressive ones these past few months.
At the end of the day it’s always going to be “here’s 2-3 movies for the casuals to keep subscribers coming in, and here’s 1 movie for you true film lovers”, I don’t think will ever get to a point where quality films is being produced at a higher rate just because quality films take longer to perfect and make. So in the meantime while the next “Mank” is being made they drive in there dollars by s***ty out quick fast food flicks.
Word. Netflix most watched content isn't even the good stuff. The Old Guard, Extraction, and Project Power were among the most watched movies on Netflix this year and those movies mid af.
feel like netflix barely promotes any original content unless its season 2 of a show that became a hit
Yeah I’m more so speaking on the movies. But they definitely promote the cliche blockbusters a lot more that will catch a casuals attention. Some of there best original content that came out this year didn’t even get promoted at the top of the app when you first turn Netflix on smh
Yeah but one is able to be replicated and one isn't. A solo viewing at home can't compare to an effective collective viewing at a theater.
Same goes for stuff like IMAX 70mm and stuff. Some things just can't be replicated at home.
Not to mention the fact that without theaters, production values of film/television series will go way down unless the costs of said streaming services SKYROCKETS.
the last part is really important which just goes completely over the heads of people who are championing about the shift to streaming.
I don’t care for most blockbusters nowadays but future blockbusters will look allot closer to s*** like Project Power or Mandalorian once the shift to stream is complete.
there’s also an extremely cheap feel to allot of direct to streaming indie-mid range films shot on digital and I’d hate for a Safdies Brothers film to look like Nerve or some s***.

yeah s*** like that one with the blindfolded movie
idk it was a horror movie
that one got alot of promo for some reason
Seeing Parasite in a theater a second time (after the movie got some buzz) is one of the best experiences I can remember having in a movie. Hearing the collective gasps and laughs, with everyone edge of seat.
Same with Uncut Gems actually.
I'm legitimately sorry you didn't get to experience any of that.
Parasite in theaters>>>>>
Anyone thinking a loss of theatrical releases means that you just can't watch your movies in a big room any more is delusional.
Production values are gonna DISAPPEAR.
Maybe I'm just dumb, but can you explain what you mean?
like strangers things wasnt even promoted but then it became a hit and s2 was everywhere
netflix social media bots b they got exposed when bird box dropped

yeah bird box thats the one i meant
random s***s get alot of tweets

Exactly they know they have to put out mid content films because those type of easy to digest films is what majority of people watch. Netflix doesn’t care about being the best app for Oscar worthy movies
yeah s*** like that one with the blindfolded movie

Bird box. Yup. And tbh I enjoyed that movie but understand why movie lovers hated it lol. They had memes and everything they promoted along with it.
Maybe I'm just dumb, but can you explain what you mean?
The reason films continue to get bigger and bigger is because of previous film profits. If theatrical exhibition disappears, the budgets that movies have will drop significantly, similar to how television already has significantly smaller budgets than films.
This means that something like Avengers: Endgame with strong special effects literally won't be possible because no movie will be making billions of dollars. Without huge net profits, studios won't spend as much on them.
Even something like The Mandalorian or the MCU shows only have the budget it has because the show is essentially a commercial to keep people invested in the theatrical films.

You make a good point and I agree. I'm not gonna lie I've seen movies at the theater that I wish went to streaming and vice versa. As long as the movie is good that's all that matters. I just think that production values and quality might be affected if everything goes to streaming.
Theaters are about expenses, not just seeing it on a big screen.
Avengers Endgame literally CANNOT exist if you go straight to streaming. Where will the budgets come from? The studios will have to hike up their prices big time in order to maintain any level of profit for budgeting films.
Why on earth do you think so many studios were holding off on going straight to streaming? Why is Black Widow not on Disney+? Easy answer: It doesn't make the kind of money they need to be financially dependable.

The first part I can’t argue with about big blockbusters turning out like Project Power. But you lost me with the last part. Uncut gems cost 19 mill to make, so did Nerve which went to theaters as well. Good Time only cost 2 mill to make.
Nerve tried to do crazy blockbuster effects with only 19 mill, that’s not Safdie bros style.

Oh okay I know exactly what you're talking about. Was coincidentally explaining to some friends earlier today. Was confused by the wording in your og post.
