I didn't say anything about artistic quality

    This thread is about culturally

It wasn't "massive" culturally but it had an undeniable grip

  • Oct 11, 2025

The moment has passed for Drake to have a moment like TLOP era Ye he could never tbh

  • Oct 11, 2025
    JeffersonSteelflex

Facts. That’s partially why he made TLOP and ultimately started his insecurity in the game ironically cause this was when Drake was rising in popularity. Yeezus was the start of the downfall for Ye personally.

    Yeah

People were not rocking with the sound of the album and the Confederate flag ish

Also this is where the "Kanye is crazy" talks started with the rants and interviews he did for Yeezus that alienated a lot of people

All Day n 4 5 Seconds "saved" him and got people to pay attention again which those songs led into the TLOP rollout and all the variations

    In terms of HipHop yes

TLOP was massively loved and the things he was doing outside of music at the time was very hyped

But to be fair - he did have his low period culturally tho with Yeezus which some on this site likes to pretend didn't happen

    “Low period culturally”

    internet buddy

It wasn't "massive" culturally but it had an undeniable grip

Rap culture, HipHop media and the mainstream were not rocking with the album nor Kanye at this point

Due to the sound of the album and his actions + controversies of the time

It didn't grip anything HipHop wise, at the time, and the only positive he got from Rap itself was the building promo projectors + New Slaves song

He alienated Rap artists, fans and media in more ways than one at the time

Drake is fundamentally not an artist, He does not express himself, he expresses what he views as popular or what is current in his lyrics, song structure and vibe. Take care was his best album and it's The Weeknd's illegimate child. even So far gone and before is a copy of 808s and heartbreak
Drake's talent for music is in his business, showmanship and performative arts, He knows how to work in the system because he was a child actor, groomed into an industry. That is fine, curation is a field of work and specialized interest.
It is just laughable to compare him to the Kendricks,Kanye's,Basquiat's s*** even Jay Z.
He is more akin to a very intelligent sociopathic DJ Khaled. Just instead of yelling DJ Khalleeeed. He raps one of his verses of the backs of whatever sound he thinks will be popular

So just because he has some special privilege coming from an acting bg disqualifies his output as a artist/rapper because it’s “unconventional” or “not real hip hop” man we’ve heard this tired ass take and it’s the same s*** ngas been saying since the beginning

God damn u ngas can’t hide ur dislike for Drake so u come over and coat it in so many words to justify it
Like undermining his talent and what he brings to the table bc of ur own biases u hold against him like aint no way u just compared him to Dj fn khaled bruh u dead ass w this rage bait

yeezus massively influenced trav whose last album was basically his best yeezus impression, bro came out on stage saying there's no travis scott without kanye west and he rarely goes out of his way to praise anyone like that

also you're turning a blind eye to its broader impact on music if you don't hear yeezus influence on artists like tyler, jpeg, gambino, danny, rocky, xxx, vince, brockhampton, denzel curry + fka twigs, rosalia, charli, 070 shake, injury reserve, billie, lorde, bon iver and more many of whom have openly praised or cited yeezus and kanye as a major inspiration
