it was certainly curated and pushed heavy on this site
the sales thread was cherry picked tweets and niggas pushing the idea that Kendrick stans thought he was gonna do a million first week, dude sold just under 300k and the album got trashed for about 2 years
Those are def bots but the reaction was real for sure
It didn't deserve the hate it got initially
It depends on the artist and what the listener expects. With Kendrick, the listener expects some groundbreaking s***. A truly once in a generation listening experience--first listen through a Kendrick album. Like Yeezus, his fan base and the general public wasn't ready for it.
With time it becomes clearer and clearer that it's a gem of an album and one of the best of the 2020's so far, for sure
I think people just wanted more mainstream stuff like DAMN. And when Mr Morale dropped and it was the exact opposite, people thought it was bad because Kendrick wasn’t tryna make radio songs
Instead, Kendrick made
“…this the reason I made Mr. Morale
So our babies like you can cope later
Give you some confidence to go through somethin’, it’s hope later”
Type songs and the mainstream didn’t want that
So negative perception of the album
On here not really. It’s just that whenever the majority comes to a consensus on an album or a song, a lot of people tend to run with it. They just so happened to be extra loud and annoying about Mr. Morale on here.
No, pretty sure it was the opposite. Wasn't he paying rap twitter accounts for promo? Or at least giving away free tickets to his show
The initial lukewarm reception wasn't fake. I liked it first time around but it's not an easy album to listen to, especially after DAMN

Post your source comrade
As someone who maintains TPAB and Section.80 being two of my favorite albums of all time and who also really enjoyed GKMC and DAMN...as a whole a lot of Mr Morale just wasn't for me...quite a few songs I do f*** with on there tho
nah it was a shift from damn, the sources saying it will be rock orientated, in subject matter
its not the easiest album to disgest, i mean the opening track is amazing but that one and worldwide steppers is really out there tracks for the introduction to this new world hes building
i can't imagine the fans who came from damn was expecting this especially when u compare dna, element to those first couple on mr morale
I am not a bot IMO and it took a while for that album to grow on me. Now it's one of my favorites of 2022 but it definitely didn't all sink in at first.
imagine if social media used ratings between classic and trash
mr morale is not a classic.
mr morale is not as good as kendrick's previous 3 albums.
therefore, the social media reaction was less than stellar.
pretty basic s*** here
me, i have it at an 8 out of 10 and pretty much always had it there since its release

i think we established very recently that your definition of a classic is looser than kim k
