It seems like every conversation surrounding hip hop and rap music is always about the numbers and first week sales nowadays.
Talks about music quality and writing are becoming rare. Its almost as if people become fans of someone's music based on how many units they sell. Am i pessimistic or has it always been like this.
no that's just stan culture and it's not just hip hop
it's even worse in the pop stan world tbh
50 started that. Nigga use to be obsessed with numbers and would clown people sales all the time. Actually I wouldn’t say he started it but he’s a big reason why people care about numbers now.
Talks about music quality are
classic, mid, trash
The end
That sucks.... Also any kind of criticism is labeled as "hating"

Nah I listen to old Jay-Z and he talking records sales and flop artists back in 90’s.
Tupac did you interviews talking bout artists flopping and him selling.
Seeing him clown on people made you wanna pay attention to sales. 50’s main thing during his prime besides quality was numbers, he made it an event. That’s just when I noticed fans slowly starting to care about numbers. Then the 2007 sales battle helped as well.

It’s always been seen as bad for your album to flop. It makes sense lol

I get it why the artists would be invested in the sales. I just don't understand why the fans are so invested

It’s either biased opinions or sales
Same thing lol
I’m more worried about the fans obsessed with pitchfork/Fantanos
don't worry about yourself

And that s*** backfired on him in '07 too
Got shot 5 times, got out of jail on bail
And sold 5 million
Sold more records then all you trick motherfuckers put together - Tupac

“Cause on the shelf is where your LP cold stood Because it was no good, that s*** ain't even go wood.”
