we got the only things on the menu--the mandu and the gomtang
gomtang was ... rly rly bland LOL
which i think is fine like sometimes rly light and bland food is rly comforting i like congee and s*** but

this also was kinda pricy and its rly rly difficult to reserve--we're talking instantly booked out and very very hyped up

soooooo u know

so i felt rly amused that it was so much effort for just... morning porridge LOL

we went n got hotteok after elsewhere :)

its also not made 2 order--they just have the soup on the stove and the mandu for the whole night steaming away..... so uknow
and allegedly the mandu r frozen

also got a pogo from burger joint delivered 2 work
my friend said its his absolute favorite burger in ny... and it has the bourdain cosign but.... in n out is defs better smh

did they give you a side of salt for the gomtang?

at more traditional gomtang spots the soup comes unseasoned/very lightly seasoned and every table has like a little jar of salt, pepper, and sometimes like a red spicy paste thing you can add to the soup. no one just eats it straight up without adding extra salt. also all
the traditional spots just have a big ass pot of broth/not made to order as well (i know u know bone broth takes hours to make and can’t be made to order so maybe i am misunderstanding that part).

tbh most korean food will prolly be better from a more traditional style restaurant unless it’s like kbbq (then the luxe spots prolly better just cause quality of meat) or like fusion/non trad style korean food.

can’t f*** up hotteok tho. even the s***ty frozen grocery store versions are alright.

they didnt give salt or pepper, but it was already peppery

they gave a red spicy sauce but specifically told us to not add it into the soup, that we shld just dip the meat into it

and yeah ur right i dont think the soup cld b made 2 order but i was mainly kinda ?? that the mandu werent steamed to order tbh
like they literally cook nothing at all LOL u just go and they just plate things. there was 0.000 cheffing done

also theirs didnt have bone in the broth 😭 i know gomtang normally does but they dont put bone in it.. which i fl like only made it more bland 😭

which again is fine... bc i can eat bland things... i like plain udon, i like congee, i like chinese plain boiled rice porridge
but something about the amt of hype this place had kinda made it funny
like the whole hyped restaurant charade just for a bowl of porridge 😭🏳
