viet chinese bakery
lots of chinese ayis buying bread from here
got the no. 1 sando w bbq pork n ham :>
it ws yummy
hainan chicken house
i liked it :> i think they have rly flavorful rice and the best broth by such a crazy long shot of the hainan chicken ive gotten in ny
this is between just the manhattan kao man gai places
(me, gai chicken rice, nyonya, the one in essex st)
i will say i like nyonyas a lot
n i like gai chicken rice a lot too (they do chili sauce not classic suace, but their sauce is fire) but their salad is sometimes yucky n wilted which gives me the ick
i think hainan chicken house the chcken itself is rly good
vip kings bakery
saw their mango mochi on ig n rly wnated to get it but theyve been selling out of it since its lowkey viral
i got these instead
beyondbakingwithamandajane.com/2022/02/09/grandmas-traditional-chinese-sweet-rice-pudding-cups-boot-jai-goo-%E7%BC%BD%E4%BB%94%E7%B3%95
its these things
it was ok
the ones i had in childhood were better n less sweet
n also hit flushing
mimisa
for the green grape chicken w a side of cheese n herb sauce
honestly the green grape sauce was rly gross 2 me
it didnt even taste like grape it was like someone boiled mountain dew down to a syrup then threw in some whole grapes n then asked u 2 dump it on ur yummy chicken
the cheese n herb sauce >>>
their tteokbokki i liked too w the chicken, v chewy n good flavor + free w the chicken
chciken was crunchy n juicy
wld rec not getting the freaky deaky sauce variations n just sticking 2 what actually wld slap
gahwa
dogani tang -- same soup base as seolleongtang but w cow knee cartilage instead of actual meat
v yummy
the broth was super flavorful n yum
frozen hoshigaki from this little mom n pop mini mart like a block away
they have some fun chinese stuff
never had it frozen but it hit so hard
also got camel milk yogurt
i asked the owner if it was like real camel milk n she wasnt sure but promised that she n her kids drink n like it
it was 2 sweet for me (chinese ppl have yogurt in like drinkable form n sweetened) but bf liked
maxis noodles
wonton mee + curry fish balls
honestly like.... may b best won ton noodles ive ever had. the homemade chili oil is sooo fragrant too
the wonton skins r sooo slippery n thin n tender
shrimp bouncy
noodles have perfect bouncy flavor
they use duck egs for the noodles
curry fish balls r super flavorful too
i got these mango mochi bc i was so bummed
this spot idk i just like xiu liu shan's mango mochi. alot more
its like snow skin mochi w whipped cream n mango
mango was rly good n its like defs fresh made
i just wish they added more starch to the outside bc they fell apart sticking everwhere and i really dont like whipped cream in my mochi tbh
if it was just mango n mochi it wld b perfy
baby blues luncheonette
this spot has like 2-3 hr waits on weekends lol
we got there at like 9:50 on a sat and it was 20 min wait already
pancake was rly yummy n fluffy
the lox toast was good, had a lot of nice details (zaatar on the onions, the everything bsagel seasoning, etc)
but also u clllllld just make it at home
overallll i liked it but i think its crazy to wait for so long for breakfast food LOL
esp breakfast food thats not particularly groundbreaking in any way
date shake -- not rly a date shake
just a vanilla shake sweetened by dates lol
palm springs date shakes >>>>>>>
vinegar hill house
apple pancake
bec sammie
chicory salad. idk why i keep trying to order these plain bitter leaf n herb salads its too farm core for me. it was good but like i need bacon bits or something :')
bec was really good, eggs were super fluffy
its just a bit small for the price
n they dont have fries, just roast potatoes
new resto from the august gatherings team/chef called yao
it was actully rly good. pricy for sure, but theres definitely a high technical ability. my problem w a lot of new chinese restos is they dont have like... a really technical chinese cooking backgound training in actual chinese cooking schools where ur learning how to use woks and stuff at a really high mastery level like how they cook in this movie:
n obviously u dont need this training 2 make good food, but its weird to see it so lacking in ny i guess
youtube.com/watch?v=qt5eCo9pV4A&ab_channel=%E7%BE%8E%E9%A3%9F%E4%BD%9C%E5%AE%B6%E7%8E%8B%E5%88%9A (they have this exact dish on their menu)
their salt baked chicken
bean curd sheet w abalone n crispy bits
mushroom rice good but skippable
portuguese style hk egg tart (po tat)
best one in the city tbh imo, sooo flaky
i wld say its more egg white heavy than usual so the custards less rich than other places, but its also way more jiggly
if u like a rly rich custard tho u wont like it
didnt get a pic but their pea shoots were >>>>> best in the city
rly flavorful, cooked in chicken broth n u can really taste it
id get the chicken, snow pea shoots, and the bean curd, but skip rice.
the charsiu rly looks good tho but didnt get
they have a lot of classic high end canto dishes i didnt try
kotti berliner doner kebab
chicken doner
p good, duzan >>> tho in terms of pita sammies imo
but v yummy
hyderabadi zaiqa -- made the ny times top 100 list (same w hainan chicken house)
got the chciekn 65 which theyre known for--it was good but i think i just need to get a curry next time, chicken 65 a bit 2 sweet for me but it was rly well spiced n well fried
garlic naan solid tho
some spots in bushwick
amaranto. i think they have the best fried fish tacos in the city, theyre always super crispy super fresh n super yummy
la cantine s/o @proper for the rec
viet coffee tres leches -- tres leches cafe >>
but this was yummy
the oat shake w espresso is good. their other coffees are bad
chicken cutley pepper jam sando is not good at all
but their like cream cheese pepper one was p decent
i just think salty lunch lady luncheonette sandwiches are significantly better
fry potatoes were crispy but otherwise had no flavor
desserts good
nutella cream cheese cookie
brownie
orange layer cake w jam
cookie n brownie 2 sweet for me but bf liked
cake hit tho it was really good. i liked the qty of vanilla bean in the cream. v nice
mangonada from mayas snack bar
rly good, fresh mangos :) not too sweet just good mango flavor
then finally
tutti frutti
super moist n yummy
curry chicken patty
overloaded jerk chicken patty (homemade coco bread, oxtail, mac)
from puffs patties
honestly the best beef patty ive ever had
better than tropical house, murphys, or kingston up in the bronx for sure
idk how much better u can get
the beef had rly good texture, was super moist, had crazy flavor n was really well spiced/had a good heat. pastry was flaky
coco bread was rly good too, the overloaded was rly yummy but i like the plain spicy beef patty the best
i heard great things bout this spot and it did not!! disappoint at all
zaatar egg chickpea radish jalapeno peppers cauliflower cucumber jalapenos potatoes feta herbs
stepped up my confectionery game today
Had some baklava pancakes on Friday
Ran it back at the same spot yesterday and had the pancakes as leftovers this morning

This sound like a curse chant bro
Ever Had Balut ?
Ya my mom used to buy them somewhat frequently
But tbh
We didnt eat the chicken or the egg white π
So just the yolk and the soup
So ive never tried the actual chicken part and honestly a bit nervous to, it seems rly bony which i think i wouldnt like
