nyc pastry updates:
1. mary o's irish soda bread is so good, 30 min wait at 11am, sells out by 1:15 on weekends
2. radio is hit or miss, the specials are really good, sammies are nice but not astonishing. the regular items are p mid though (e.g. sausage thing or corn bread or whatever)
3. bread and butter bakery closed sad
4. hani's bakery opened and then blew up on tiktok months later. only the cake is good, the pastries and other goods have been highly not impressive (cinamon roll is fine, potato bun ass, pistach rice krispy is really hard). pb and j cake is really excellent i still think about it... but idk the non cakes seem to struggle
5. trying elbow bread tomorrow
6. paloma bakery is fire. only tried the shakshuka pastry (got the last single pastry they had left) and it was fire. thought it wld be overrated but their pastry level is high and the flavors are good
7. somedays bakery is also way better than i thought it would be. their loukaniko pain suisse (savory sausage n feta pastry) is nice. pistachio lattice is rly good, and im not really a fan of pistachio/almond croissants usually. didnt like the special i got (was filled w peppermint pastry cream which idk is a choice).
8. welcome home bakery - i got the lemon corn cookie and the almond croissant. it was actually an almond pain choc which ive never had before, i liked it a lot. the actual pastry level here isnt the highest, but i think it is very delicious w the toppings, choco was melty which i like. the cookie was ass though, and it doesnt seem like the muffins are that good either.
9. la la bakeshop-- new viet bakery that does stuff like pork floss salted egg yolk swiss rolls. i felt like an xoi's egg/floss cake is way better, but they only sell theirs sometimes in popups. it tasted like something ud get at a regular degular asian bakery
i think of these, mary o's sits at the top bc i genuinely cld eat that scone daily.
then hani's pb cake, radio's specials, paloma (want to try other stuff), somedays pistachio lattice id get if i happened to be in the area maybe (but little flower cafe is also nearby and i rly love their donut so idk)
probably wouldnt go back to welcome home

Trying to force myself to not go again during the 2.5 weeks I have left here, easily the spot I've been to the most and I still got a bunch of places that I want to hit
But it's so easy to get pulled back in whenever they got something new and wild on the menu
hazelnut frangipane
They're mad creative
That double baked concha is one of my favorite things I've gotten from them and the other variety they had on the day I got the one in the first picture had sunflower seed frangipane
And that's just something they make on a whim sometimes when they're running low on stuff
sesame chicken from the asian place
(the asian place is literally the name)
bro
middle of america ass asian restaurant name
