I think you mean if you're dumb enough NOT to understand. nice typo.
thanks for telling me that dysfunctional relationships are bad and can negatively impact families. i really had no idea you are so smart.

Nobody called it "revolutionary", all I've seen is people hating
And it's nominated for it's visuals so I don't get what y'all are even complaining about

i'm hating because i shared an opinion you disagree with. ok got it

You’re hating because you are in here acting like because others appreciate something you don’t that we are pretending. If it doesn’t relate just move on.

Father Time has been done many times as well and people have praised that song more than We Cry Together. It means something’s to some people and others it doesn’t.

Father Time is a concept that has been done several times already but Kendrick's approach to the material works great IMO. Lyrics are well written, beautiful production, and gorgeous chorus from Sampha.

We Cry Together could've been executed better IMO. a lot of the dialogue between the fighting couple isn't convincing to me. if people like it, more power to them. i think it's mid and i'm entitled to express my opinion too without being reduced to a hater.

i already posted what i'm complaining about. this song is corny, predictable, and obnoxious to listen to. visuals aren't gonna make this song a better experience or justify an Oscars nomination.

Why do you care why others f*** with it? You didn’t just come in and state your opinion, you started inquiring why others don’t feel like you.

Why do you care So much about a song you don’t like?

Nah man if people f*** with it, i think that's awesome. everyone is entitled to their taste. but I find it so absurd for this to get an Oscars nomination. there are so many other songs and artists that i'd rather see given the opportunity to represent hip hop at the Oscars.

The Oscar is for the visuals which you haven’t seen. That’s literally the definition of hating. You’re mad about a video you never watched being nominated for a video award.

It’s not for the song. The fact that it’s a song doesn’t matter. It’s being judged for being a film.

The "film" is based on this song, which tells a shallow and predictable story. at this point, i'm not sure how they could approach the cinematography to portray such a simple idea in an interesting way. its a couple yelling back and fourth. if the video is mind blowing, i'll eat my words but they're working with such a bland idea.

How is the story shallow? This s*** be happening on a daily basis and having long lasting and profound effects on the people involved. The execution was good imo. In any case, how exactly would you improve on it if it was you?

Claiming that this song highlights the "long lasting and profound effects" on people involved in toxic relationships is being extremely generous IMO.
The couple exchange nasty insults. They curse each other out. Their argument ends with make-up sex. If anything, this song makes light of these kind of relationships as opposed to exploring the consequences of staying with a toxic partner.

Edit, My bad, I missed your question. First of all, this song would be improved with a stronger chorus than "f you" back and fourth. I'm not offended by the vulgar language but this exchange is lazy songwriting to me. This song would be improved with more convincing dialogue between the couple. For example, the R Kelly and Harvey Weinstein references seem like they were forced in the lyrics to shock people.

The make-up s***at the end is cliché and predictable. I would either eliminate that and escalate the fight where the altercation gets more serious. Or close the song with a solo Kendrick verse where he reflects back on the relationship and a***yzes his wrongs. Either scenario would be more effective than closing this out with a sexual encounter IMO.

What the couple did in the video is literally what happens in toxic relationships. It's not belittling it or making light of anything. It's just showing you this s*** happens. I've been in a relationship like that in the past and what was depicted in the song is exactly how the s*** used to go. That ending is how s*** would play out when i was with my girl at the time. The same is true for many people across the world. Speak to folks who've been in these type of situations and theyll tell you there's nothing predictable or cliche about what Kendrick and Taylour did. Also, i dont think the intention was to discuss what the conseuqences are, it appears his goal was to shed light on it. Simple as that. I feel like alot of people listening to that joint were looking for some deep, world bending perspective when really, and much like kendrick was saying across the album, you're getting it as it is, no saviour superhero s***.

I'm not criticizing this song for being unrealistic. Couples fight, say awful things they can't take back, and then get back in bed with each other like nothing ever happened. i know couples who even "get off" on having these fights because they think it keeps their relationship from getting boring.

With that said, just because these kind of relationships are common doesn't mean that it makes for a great song or that portraying it in a song will spread awareness on the issue. We already know this s*** happens all the time, so if Kendrick's only goal was to shed light on an issue everyone is already familiar with, the song has no point, especially since the music isn't even enjoyable. it's an obnoxious and childish shouting match.. in my own subjective opinion of course.
