also he was more focused on music back then. whenever he talks about music even now he sounds completely lucid, intelligent and insightful. it's like watching any expert at the top of their field talk.

When it was still mostly about the music, there were way less off moments. if he'd been this focused on all the other stuff in his interviews and public appearances 15 years ago he probably wouldn't have had the longevity he did. this side of him was overshadowed by us mostly seeing him do/talk music-related stuff
