thanks bro. nah this is vanilla js. i used dynamic content loading to create a single page look, where instead of reloading the entire page for every user interaction, the content updates dynamically like react would.
anyone get a web dev job off of personal projects? i graduated with a cs degree but had personal issues the last couple years of school where i couldn’t afford to apply to non paid / part-time internships, in order to pay rent. i’ve been working at warehouses as a machine operator the last 5 years.
don’t know if this is the right place for this but i’ve got a simple gig with a union where i was paid handsomely for remaking their website (+$1000) and now i get a monthly stipend for being in charge of updating their website ($-100) a month. i have the monthly pay for doing nothing + unless they need a simple update which doesn’t take more than an hour. i only charge them between 2-4 hours. should i ask for a raise or should i continue to do the work because they are my *first client as an amateur.
venting now, but i have a friend that wanted to work together. where he gets clients and i make the site. Although i made the site to fit the most recent clients needs. the client was happy with it enough to pay our fee we launched the site and everything, the client had the idea that just cause we made the site he would be at the top of the google search and we would make a google business account for his business. when we explained that that’s not what we offered. he ended up wanting a refund and we had to pay out of pocket back to him. i paid for the hosting and the domain. now i’ve lost that money. tips for going about transactions in future?

You could offer SEO / Google a***ytics as a continuous service. If u get paid for work u did don't give it back.
Do domains & estimate of the first month of hosting as non refundable upfront

fr a learning experience. but still sucks to lose a customer and the payment. next time i’ll have a contract that explicitly states the terms.

Man make sure you get everything in writing going forward, if you got all of that in writing, you shouldn't have paid back. You need to stand up for yourself more. That's completely f***ed what they did

Yeah I did. I don't even have a cs degree, got my first big boy job in 2022~
Spent like 8~ years working on personal projects, doing a little contracting etc, to the point I built a decent portfolio and that was enough to land a fulltime job at a decently known company, even without a degree. w a degree I think you'll be in a lot better position. Should probaly try get your foot in the door in the next 2~ years max tho incase AI goes a bit insane
Just take the main techstack (react, tailwindcss) and make s***. you can make anything with it, mobile apps, desktop apps. it's where all the jobs are. If ur using vanlla js regularly just take the leap and force yourself into the react ecoysystem asap, I know what it's like, I was the same, but you'll thank yourself a year from now
Going from vanilla js to a modern framework will blow ur mind at how much faster/more you can do now. I became a lot more ambitious with projects once I got my hands dirty with react. It also makes the parts of webdev that are a pain, effortless

These kind of learning experiences are ass but fr it's the only way I ever learn anything
