you a real one @doot_doot
I feel you but these like daily merch bundles are kinda gimmicky and cringe. he went insane with trying to stay #1
Trilogy was the work of 2 producers for the most part (on the surface level lol) & Abel. His whole "not showing my face"/"not doing interviews" thing fit in with the mysterious Tumblr aesthetic. It fit the sound they created. (Google Jeremy Rose btw he created most of the "image" & sound. Doc & Illangelo just ran with it and made a great project). When the producers started to change, so did the image. Kiss Land, produced by mostly the same producers track by track - but so different to what Doc & Illangelo created.
Then he blows up with a few songs from BBTM - which all leaked months and months in advance if you remember. For public opinion, to see whether the style was worth going with. Or if something else was more marketable. Different producers on every song, few familiar faces, now he's doing interviews, going for a new sound altogether... it's a mess.
He's a creation. Not true to his image for even 2 whole albums. Not saying his music is or ever has been bad. But it's a messy pop creation at this point. Nothing about him is consistent.
The problem with this is that you’re equating “his sound” and “his image” to what Trilogy was, when that is obviously not the case and obviously never has been the case.
At this point in his career he has released more pop albums than he has Trilogy albums. He was even making pop music before he released Trilogy. It’s obvious that he’s not interested in making that kind of music anymore, and it’s obvious he’s trying to distance himself from that sound so why can’t you?

i think his theme of depression, d****, loneliness, and a longing for love/or the opposite has been pretty consistent since his musical inception
I think this may be better than Trilogy to me or at least on par. I stopped listening to Starboy and BBTM after a week they dropped but this is still getting spins. I can’t think of a song where I think “yeah this is filler” like with his last two albums. Even the pop songs have depth. Blinding Lights is contender for the best pop song of the last decade

Bc there is no filler, every track serves a purpose towards the bigger picture
