The song went #1, that’s great, but that doesn’t outright make it Song of the Sunmer because a handful of other songs have went #1 and been in the Top 10 longer throughout the summer

No one’s moving any goalpost, Break My Soul being #1 is just irrelevant to this thread

And that’s not a completely inaccurate statement. The same exact thing can be said about Jimmy Cooks. Went #1 but isn’t really the “Song of the Summer”

With the rise of social media, music isn’t simply being enjoyed for music anymore. There is often a political backdrop associated with music, especially if it’s mainstream

Is this a thing cause of social media, or can we just talk about it now because we have social media to talk about it on? Most people have never enjoyed music simply for music’s sake, that isn’t new

And with the Tory Lanez example, certain artists have always been branded as unfavorable based on public events. Was Ja Rule not shunned both publicly and in the industry because of 50 Cent? Or MJ after the allegations? Hell, listening to teen pop idols in the late 90s was widely frowned upon, Justin Bieber when he blew up as well

It JUST WENT #1, and we’re two and a half months into summer

THATS WHY it’s not Song of the Summer

Not because of how much time is LEFT in summer, but because of how much of summer has PASSED already

And, since your argument for it being SOTS was that it’s #1 right now, it can’t be considering it JUST WENT #1 when 75% of the summer is over already

AND that there are multiple other songs that have been at #1 and in the Top 10 longer throughout the summer
