Some people are nostalgic - some associate music with time periods. A song of the summer would be a song that years down the road, when I hear it I’m reminded of this summer. Streaming kinda killed it for me tbh, in the radio era it was different. For example, I never go out of my way to listen to I Gotta Feeling, but it played so much in the summer of 2009 that I’m immediately reminded of that summer anytime I hear it.
