i get people checking out around french dispatch as the 'parody of himself, all his movies look the same' stuff started to solidify. it can really just look like all artifice with no character or anything to grab on emotionally. colour coordination, picturesque framing, stilted/detached characters.

it seems like with any trailer or first look images people see what it looks like and they hop off because hes doing it again

but people doing that are missing some really great movies. there is some incredibly soulful, thoughtful, meditative and human stuff under the surface in asteroid city and phoenician scheme.

french dispatch is the only one i straight up dont see any of the magic/feeling under the hood. the middle segment with benecio as the artist was goat but i dont really get what he was going for in general on that movie.

i think that's his worst one because we've seen that deadbeat patriarch archetype enough from him. If he wants to go up his ass with the visuals and with abstractions, I'm here for it, that s***'s cool, I just think there's certain beats he's hit enough

Even his worst film is still pretty good

Anderson revealed (somewhat at Bill Murray’s pressure) that the idea remains: “We will do a Western, you know. I think. For many years, we’ve talked about doing a Western. Owen and Luke Wilson, I think, will be a part of that… They’re from Texas, too, and I think it’s our destiny.”

  • Luke n Owen look like crap, respectfully

F*** no. Phoenician Scheme was a return to form after French Dispatch and Asteroid City which left me barely whelmed for the first time in the quarter century I've been watching his films.
