SO some DJ Quik fans might know this but I'm guessing a lot don't know the Shepherd Lane saga. Basically Quik got into business with this other entrepreneur who started this label and they decided to launch this talented rapper "Mausberg" that Quik met at his concert. Sugafree x Quik decided to launch him with the Konnectid compilation.

They were rolling pretty good with the look of Quik producing and mixing the majority of the work. And then they started on the Mausberg and solo. Everything was cooking and they were near completion and the album had some potential to make some noise on a indy label.

Maus got killed before it was finished. This probably made Quik distance from ever co-launching another rapper because he was taken from him. In addition the label didn't get Maus out of the hood and had him living in a dangerous neighborhood when they could've easily posted him an apartment out of the hood. The tragedy could've been avoided easily. Dead at 21.. one of the most talented of his generation.

It's a lesson to heed. Support your artists and shelter them & don't try to save money. Because in the end you are putting your investment and your business partner in danger. This would make Quik not want to do business with this label ever again.

the way he sways back and forth on. rhythm with that flute synth that sounds like some maze- frankie beverly melody 😭

BTW we probably will have a DJ Quik sessions anthology of all the material & remixes In the near future. We will get some cool artwork for it as well. This anthology will include production collaborations and remixes. This is kinda like the start of the Quik series. 😎
