the end1989 is better
1989 has better melodies and tighter songwriting but folklore has better and more thoughtful lyrics. 1989 overall a more enjoyable listen with very little filler.

Yeah instead of being generally obnoxious, a lot of that is just horror movie music mixed with rap

Wu-Tang is as horrorcore as a lot of Memphis stuff. Memphis production obviously had the lo-fi and underwater sound going long before it was mainstream. I don't think 36 Chambers aged poorly though. Still one of the best beginner records for any person interested in rap.
