If we abolish the police, what could we do/use instead of the police force?

  • Jun 10, 2020

it's such a complicated idea, there seems to be so many ways to go about it and many things that need to be done before we get to it.

Nothing. We can restructure the police to be smaller and more effective at dealing with threats without abusing the communities they’re supporting than currently, we don’t even have to call it “police” lol. But law enforcement of some kind will always exist, it’s been a part of human civilization for millennia now

I don't think people are calling for disbanding the police (except synopsis ) but I think people are more for narrowing the scope of the job. Part of the problem is that cops have to be different things to a lot of people

This. We need somebody to deal with inevitable violent crime. But the scope and scale of policing is ridiculous atm

There are tons of ppl calling for it. The abolitionist movement isnt some made up s***

Funding support to avoid the committing of crime in the first place. Youth projects, education, facilities - rather than funding police and their equipment ( which is abused violently)

  • Jun 10, 2020

the police are called for everything
setup other systems to have mental health experts to come in instead for a lot of those calls

I also think a lot of police departments are beyond repair and should be rebuilt for the community in the name of public safety

I agree with what you’re saying but who are the bootlickers itt. So far almost everyone here has agreed that the police needs to be defunded and that the money should be sent to other functions for the community

    Synopsis

I mean there are people for it, but our govt is designed to make sure little changes and this idea is "radical" enough that enough people are hesitant to create the overwhelming majority necessary for actual change. We're more likely to get some form of free college before the disbanding of police units across America

    Systematic removal of inequalities
E.g socially constructed inequalities, redistribution of wealth that was caused by these socially constructed inequalities, and removal of inequalities caused by luck coupled with community reinforcement will allow crime to cease.

Anyone who is advocating for abolishment of police under capitalism without these terms doesnt know what they’re talking bout imo. It won’t work. The driving cause of crime is that people are unequal and people commit illegal actions to strive to be equal. Without the systematic removal of inequality, we will never abolish the police successfully.

Would hold true if human greed wasn't a thing.

That's why animals are so successful without needing police. There is no greed, hunt and take only as much as needed

The gregarious police themselves. That's the operativity of bad conscience and the finest governmentality. Who needs police, prisons, disciplinary apparatuses? It's all been perfected already!

    Something else

Then that will not be as effective

So we will add something else to that

And so on and so on

Until we end up with the police again lmfao rofl
