Joyner got a few decent songs on his album tbh it’s just he’s kinda corny at times. Like on his songs he’ll have a stretch where he’s actually doing good and then he’ll f*** the vibe up by saying a bunch of corny, fake hard s***. The fast rapping is just a s*** gimmick too because even tho he’s not doing bad, he’s not really saying anything that will make you go “wow” it just sound hard because he’s rapping fast and I fee he’s use that as a crutch and it just doesn’t flow well most of the time.
Joyner focuses more on flow and saying a lot of s*** that could be said if he wasn't so one note and focused less on being really technical and more on how he actually says things.
Dave could have way better beats, and also just be more memorable as a songwriter. He's got no quirks or personality to his style, nothing unique that makes him stand out
So Joyner is trying too hard, and Dave isn't doing enough
To put it simply: Their styles are pretty generic and done better by both contemporary and OG rappers.
With Joyner, his flow isn't as great or interesting as Kendrick's, Tech N9ne's, Gibb's, JID's, or even Logic's. It just comes off try hard like he's trying to impress you with his style/speed. And his conscious songs are okay but kinda surface level deep.
With Dave, the nigga is literally just a generic NY rapper with no real personality. Even Fabolous has more charisma and personality than him. Dude seems to have no real identity and his songwriting isn't interesting at all. Plenty of rappers from NY and elsewhere have rapped about the same s*** but in a much better way.
That's not saying they suck or anything. I'd listen to them over Tekashi or Jake Paul any day of the week. But they don't really bring anything new to the table at all.
