Because the internet offers more avenues for anonymous interaction, the social phenomena SHAME has become an endangered species.

People say s*** they’d never say in public, and act in ways they’d never do in public.

This isn’t new to SM, but its on such a grand scale that a growing minority cannot differentiate. They go out in public and get called out, try to run back and can’t cuz its real life.

The biggest kicker is tho are the people trying to bring this shamelessness to real life and get offended when gasp you act a damn fool and get smacked.

Tangentially, a lot of people ALSO have an inflated sense of importance. Everyone thinks theyre right, and cannot handle a sustained conversational critique.

The internet and gaming and media in general are just cheap dopamine that pacifies us whether it's productive and actually fulfilling or not. You can trap yourself in a cycle of cheap dopamine that actually makes you miserable.

You can say that's just what addiction is but also, there is a huge influx of capital that spends money making sure they can trap you in these cycles. It's actually predatory.

I heard this good theory where algorithms are the reason society is so divisive right now

Having a perfectly splint demographic that are polarized against each other creates this extremely profitable situation that can be exploited by any algorithmically driven economy

all them younger kids get a hold of TikTok more until they move to LA out of their seedy backwaters of Bidenia. Without a college diploma which it makes me feel good about graduating as they can prosper or phasing out. It's all about narcissism is what they propelled like punking a dumb redneck conservative for likes is just a major life achievement. Algorithms are nothing than a thousand lines of code though.

It seems that most people can't live within the moment. They have to tweet about it, take a selfie behind it and show us like we care, and record it. What happened to just looking at it?

what bugs me most about social media is how hard it is to connect with people when it really shouldn’t be, but I can’t figure out if that’s a me problem or a social media problem. it just seems like people simply aren’t friendly anymore

I feel more authenticity and sense of connection on an anonymous site like this than I do on any of my actual social media pages and it’s kinda depressing tbh
