we should aim to improve ourselves everyday, not just at the turn of a new year!

People always need a reason to do or stop something, most won't just do something out of thin air, there has to be an objective, a review of it and the accomplishment. Therefore I see new year's resolutions as a perfect way to start a healthy habit.
Or you could name it the starting motivation, the discipline comes after some time.
I would recommend meditating and reading daily as healthy habits. Also start at a slower pace/length and increment. Same with exercise and building wealth. Every success is coming from hard-working habits and the "positive side effects" of it
