    Mr Carter

hov def chased a pop/mainstream sound a couple times, like the blueprint 3. it just never connected, im sure he would've kept it up if it connected

dont get me wrong, a lot of rap artists would do what drake did if they could, that doesnt not make it pop tho

so why are we condemming drake for being succesful at it when we know goats have tried it before but were unsuccessful due to how the music industry was set up. Drake is a hip hop artist, the difference is he is a hip hop artist during an era where hip hop can technically be #1 instead of just culturally. Hov's first #1 hit was Empire state of mind, if he had streaming numbers his entire career he woulda went pop after vol 1

also pop is about more than singing, its about the sound, the production you choose, etc

    chord progressions, song structure…

No one took that mos def s*** seriously. It’s more about the jokes. His wording was funny.

Imagine thinking Drake doesn’t bar up. Just about the only artist who gives you immaculate 4 minute no hook 100 bar verses as promo for his upcoming album.

since Drake is on hiatus for the year, should KTT follow suit with making threads about him? what would the repercussions be? will there be peace amongst the land? would the forum just be completely f***in dead? and i wonderrrrr........

drake stands apart from the rest of hip hop for more reasons than being the biggest star longer than anyone else. no one has gotten the fame drake has specifically because he went pop among some other reasons

he's also not threatening at all, drakes whole image fits snuggly into what american culture wants. and don't even bring up his rebrand into a thug, no one actually thinks drake is dangerous. the people around him are dangerous and thats completely different

  • Jan 18, 2024

It's all just because he got really popular and then focused on music to make him more popular, that's it

I grew up with Drake, was early on his s***, and loved it all till views. I will say he was a b**** for the delays and then just dropping that, I don't like it at all I legit hate it more each listen

Yeah Kendrick is the epitome of hip hop.

I said “just about the only”

There are others. Drake learned that from Wayne.

Just saying that Drizzy has been giving us album level loosies since day 1, consistently, year after year. Very hip hop.
