the only debatable point here is the quality of rapper. you're right, I haven't listened to Wale since The Gifted, but I think his mixtape run plus his first two albums were enough to pass a judgment there
And I'm not mad at you. I've done the same thing with certain artists. Sometimes, some artists ain't for everyone.
So many can't compare to Drake because he's so popular. It's an unfair comparison. Wale is super successful. Love him or hate him. He has multiple #1 albums, multiple platinum and gold singles and albums, tours consistently and packs out venues, he bouta be in a Michael Bay movie. That's it.
faaacts, was a return to form, then he went straight back to dropping mid right after ugh
Yup exactly
Disclaimer that I don't really listen to Wale
Wale doesnt really make radio music. He might have some but Drake releases music at a very high frequency. And it's mostly radio music
Drake also plays the algorithm game and I don't really know Wale to play that game
Wale also isnt particy likeable. Everybody likes Drake as a celebrity.
Also Quality of music has almost nothing to do with how popular your music is

Some interesting points here because you could definitely argue that one of the main reasons Drake is so huge is because he doesn't play the algorithm/radio game. Look at him stepping into dancehall/islandvibes/ukvibes with Views/More Life when trap was absolutely dominant, he could have easily made countless huge hits with Travis/Thug etc around that time but he chose to release barely any and instead go his own path which I think pissed the majority of people off but people came around to it because the music was pretty good. Same w/ not doing big pop collabs in general, he has barely any at all, yet this place would lead you to believe he's regularly collabing with post malone/taylor/ariana etc
The internet narrative around Drake is very interesting, someone who's deaf and reads music opinions would basically think Drake & Katy Perry/Dua Lipa/Taylor Swift (pre 2018) etc release the same style of music.

People cant let go of Toosie Slide when the rest of Dark Lane was pure rnb / rap for instance lol.
What did French Montana do wrong to not be Drake level
Is he not?
Some of y'all really don't get that Drake does and sees this music thing closer to someone like Kanye than his contemporaries are closer to being him/on his level
It's hard to replicate

Idk man maybe being relevant for 13+ years you do things a certain way that others can't
The two would know
funny thing is many people forget or don’t know wayne actually didn’t like drake at first and the only reason he gave him a chance is cause he thought drake could just sing on hooks or something like that
i think a studio session changed his perspective rap wise
Sounds like Ye and Jay-Z, except Ye was reduced to a producer. Might be a lesson in there somewhere?
