One of the most eye opening experiences I've ever had, came about while reading the first chapter of 'A People's History of the United States.' In nauseating detail, Howard Zinn describes what actually happened after Christopher Columbus's first arrival in the Caribbean. In less then two years of brutal enslavement, rape, torture, and pillaging, Columbus and his followers massacred the native Haitian population, setting the seeds for the America we know today.
Furthermore his passages about Lincoln and how slavery was ended not because of morality was pretty new to me. From Andrew Johnson to JP Morgan and much more pretty much showed me how f***ed up America was and still is. Theres actually so much to talk or write about, kinda blew my mind about his statements
For me personally its maybe one of the most intresting books ive ever read. But what is actually your opinion on this book and how accurate is it? I know he was pretty left
it's a good book
history is full of s***tiness
didnt turn me into a leftist but it's good to read stuff that doesnt fully support your priors
