i see this word thrown around a lot

what artist/music would you consider pretentious? why? is it a turn off?

Pretentious I would use more to describe people who write off music just for being popular or think they are superior to you because their taste in music is more niche or underground

I HATE pretentious music fans. Like rock and classical elitists who hate on popular music or music that doesn’t have “real instruments” and think they are smarter because of it.

I can’t stand the “born in the wrong generation” strain of pretentious fan who thinks all popular music is bad unless it was made 40 years ago.

Also the rap fans who hate on street niggas and only respect rappers like Kanye, Kendrick, Tyler, etc

Artists or fans of artists who dismiss other songs, albums or genres because they feel like their tastes are superior when, very often, they are either completely clueless or (the fans) get all of their opinions from people like Fantano.

Indie fans are a funny group to observe when it comes to music discussion.

pretentious is just another buzzword thrown around online to criticize something vaguely without actually making a discernible point

isn’t any different than how niggas talk about s*** not having “replay value” or something being “woke”

I’m a nerd but not so much of a f***ing nerd I throw the p word around. It means nothing to me

I think a great example is fans that over a***yze every little detail of an artist because of who the artist is. Stuff like this for example:

On the flip side, I do think the word gets overused and thrown around by anyone trying to s*** on something that’s deemed “artsy”

People who jack themselves off for being self perceivedly superior

But not in a cocky way in a nerd way

thinking youre better than someone else for liking certain music but at the same time not being open minded

folks who think they're superior because all they listen to is lesser-known artists and have to broadcast it.
