a couple reasons why 88rising fell off to me

1. they moved away from hip hop to be more explicitly pop after joji became their by far biggest artist

2. i don’t know who’s on the label, they posted a lot of artists who weren’t signed to their label on their youtube which is cool from the sense of promoting asian artists but if you liked one song from someone you heard they might just never be on the 88rising channel again. also it gives the label very little synergy between their acts. like im not gonna care about some taiwanese pop girl just cause she’s on the same label as a korean rapper i like

3. joji is their cash cow but he’s outgrown them at this point, from what ive read, he’s not a fan of how they’ve handled his career and is almost out of his contract. on the other hand i can see why it must be hard for the label when your star is a mysterious music maker who barely does promo

4. they focused more on the festival game which probably makes them more immediate cash then signing and developing artists which they probably need after the pandemic
