Just seems dumb like let’s recreate Tom and jerry with a real cat and mouse. What’s the point really

Idk, I think it looks cool. And a lot of kids probably didn't watch the original.

How much do you know about Beyoncé’s career trajectory? Her commercial peak/prime was in the first 5 years of her career and she peaked globally on a commercial level back in 2008 when she released I Am.. Sasha Fierce. After turning 30, she started declining and underperformed with 4, before having a comeback ala Emancipation of Mimi w/ Self-Titled and another great commercial showing with Lemonade.. by that point she was 13 years into her solo career after her commercial peak.. not counting the 5 years she was in the best selling girl group of all time...by 2018 with her supposed flops she was 10 years outta her commercial prime and catering to a demographic almost cut in half audience ..still with side/passion projects black is king

It’s also one of the most successful live albums of the decade..

Black is King received glowing reviews and in the top 30 streamed projects on Disney + and churned in 3 million views during its first week. the gift is sitting happily at a 77 on metacritic, which is dope for a compilation project for its nature along with receiving accolades despite its commercial failure
..everything is love is at an 80 ..that’s universal appeal it also won a Grammy for best urban contemporary album. Mind you these are achievements when Beyonce is 10 years out of her commercial prime

homecoming It’s also one of the most successful live albums of the decade..

These are just garnishes on top of unbelievable longevity

She has one of the most fruitful, successful most well-rounded careers out of anyone still alive and kicking and a bonefide legend despite commercial dips on quick lil side gigs.. very few artists ..any genre survive let alone dominant at the front of the mainstream consciousness the way she has.. the way you’re cherry picking a few failures to imply that something’s wrong is strange If one truly understood everything’s she’s accomplished. tbh honest she could have stopped at 4 and retired and still be solidified, but to come back when counted out and land 2 heavy hitters like Lemonade/Self-titled is unprecedented.. we haven’t even heard her 7th LP.

The way she had her cultural impact / peak of relevance AFTER her commercial phase is astounding and I don’t think that happened before very often. Her immense talent at crafting those crazy performances and the work ethic play a significant role in that. Just from 2016 to 2018 she went on a stadium world tour, had major award shows, became pregnant, planned Beychella almost a year in advance with involvements in every single aspect of the show, recorded an album with Jay and went on another world tour.

I agree, but the 3 projects are mentioned were not great, and also weren't received that well. Let's the hope the solo album is great.

it is kinda weird that she gets outsold so much by Drake and Taylor Swift, but she is kind of a legacy act. Also she treats her projects entirely as promo for her tours. Her tours are where she makes bank. she is a huge draw. Her tickets prices are insane and she packs arenas night after night, something even people who outsell her can't. she doesn't care about sales

That’s why I’m struggling to understand how OP is weighting side projects/compilations/soundtracks so heavily against her that far into her career. It’s like discrediting Whitney Houston for not reaching the highs of The Bodyguard w/ The Preacher’s Wife or the fall off between I’m Your Baby Tonight and My Love is Your Love..

Is Mariah’s slayage in the 1990s devalued because Glitter flopped?

“ but the 3 projects are mentioned were not great, and also weren't received that well.”. - they were all extremely acclaimed.. opened with glowing reviews with the accolades to match.. Commercial success has nothing to do with critical reception. Do we judged Mariah by The flop Glitter? Whitney and the Preacher’s Wife and her last two LPs ? D’angelo’s Black Messiah had disappointing numbers yet received universal praise and a 95 metacritx score..

it is kinda weird that she gets outsold so much by Drake and Taylor Swift l.” - They’re not her peers.. Drake and Taylor hadn’t reach their commercial peak until the mid 10s and by that time Beyonce was already a veteran in the game, when Drake hit megastar status with Views and Taylor w/1989 Beyonce was damn near a legend at that point.. That like me finding it weird that Britney’s Spears outsold and supplanted Mariah Carey in her commercial peak 99-02 even though Mimi had already reached her prime and started to gracefully decline nearly 5 years earlier.. how do ya’ll even compare different generations as if they’re running mates JUST because they release music at the same time ..

I‘m still rational, her commercial peak is long gone, and she hasn’t focused on her white/pop audience for over 10 years now, and I don’t see it changing with her next projects. But I think she could have a nice come back with her 7th solo, a top 10 debut single, 300k opening for the album, longevity and a smashing tour. I could also see a collab album like Ed Sheeran released working for her, maybe even all-female.

Even MJ’s HIStory compilation project in 1995 was considered a massive commercial underperformance when released only opening with 391,000 copies in its first week.. which is on par with opening numbers of acts today (back then record sales were MUCH MUCH higher) and only sold about 1.5 million records by the end of that year. His project before that, Dangerous sold 1.7 million in its first 5 days of release..

I’m pretty sure no one said.. ‘what happened to MJ’ after that.

Yeah. Beyonce was relevant when Drake and Taylor were little kids and most people didn't even know they existed.

If that’s the case why is it weird to you that ppl like Drake and Taylor outsell Beyonce, then.. shouldn’t they be? All the legends later into their career were getting outsold by newer fresher faces that debut after them.. all of our GOATs included..

it's weird because beyonce is a bigger all time star. she's in the MJ / Whitney tier. but it makes sense because of where they are in their careers

HIStory’s first week outsold Dangerous, was the biggest foreign unit ever in some countries and ended up as the biggest selling double album of all time.

All whilst being twice the price of a standard CD unit release.

HIStory commercially underperformed only to naive Jackson haters.

Disney thing worked, she got her artist a main role lol but no one really cares about soundtracks nowadays.

Everything Is Love had some nice songs, it flopped harder than expected.

Her career was going great before Disney and the collab project. Hope her next album will be good.

  • Grief

True, but the projects I mentioned have definitely not been received that well.

What does that have to do with anything. She's the goat. Was Aretha franklin still selling a lot of records damn near 30 years into her career?
