those mascots are a representative persona for something larger than the individual members of the groups they're associated with. however it's something that the members sublimate themselves to & buy into i guess . it lets fans do that to

hyper individualisation of society/culture resulting in main character zyndrome means that the artist has to be centered the whole time, there's artifice around the artist now but it serves the artist themselves like lore rather than representing a larger ethos

i think this indicates a vibe shift from aspiring to be a part of something greater than yourself to aspiring to max out the individual self

its easier to sell people things when society is atomised & people feel isolated . more often these days people would like to pursue being some sort of autodidactic multi-hyphenate artist, stock trader, fitness influencer, spiritually enlightened person rather than integrate with their immediate local community .

artists nowadays represent a aspirational figures, people to become a frankenstein-ish approximation of. this was always this case to a degree of course but i think there's more of a consciousness from capital owners that its not as easy to influence ppl if they're fulfilled & integrated healthily into communities which those cute lil mascots symbolise
