all in the space of under 13 years. That's honestly f***ing crazy looking back. But then even with expectations for Half Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 skyrocketing into the heavens they cancelled both ( ) and just sort of haven't done much since then in terms of games cs go and dota 2 i guess notwithstanding.
Obviously they're successful with Steam and the deck but I miss when they made games man
They're a really small team and they're all filthy rich, they don't have to do anything ever again unfortunately
They made half life alyx best VR game ever made (not even close, legit leagues beyond any VR game ever made) and one of the best games of 2020 (a stacked af year)

Of course. Just can't really get over the melancholy that comes with thinking about Steam nostalgia

Theyre not a small team at all lmao

Maybe I’m wrong but I had always heard their dev team was a small tight knit circle, at least compared to other studios
they’re busy working on the new s***
Gaben playing half life 3 and team fortress 3 on his steam deck 2 prototype as we speak
Gabe Newell is just sitting in his office getting fatter and fatter and playing with his knife collection

youre pretty much right
i guess technically its a lot of people but in terms of AAA game development its such a small number
for context half life alyx credits 393 people in total while call of duty modern warfare 2019 credits 3357 people

400 people is a big studio
No idea why COD needs so many

No idea why COD needs so many
halo infinite 2686 people
red dead redemption 2 7315 people
the last of us part 2 2335 people
cyberpunk 3556 people
animal crossing new horizons 517 people
control 788 people
resident evil 2 remake 1093 people
some games in different styles from around the same time as valves last that you could compare to half lifes impact quality and budget and they all still have more devs working on them than valve does
400 people is a lot but they are a small studio
steamdeck tho
Man I'd do anything for Left 4 Dead 3
I've always loved their games but I feel like they've been so successful with Steam that they're probably far more focused on that than developing games
